Job Description
The Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) will ensure welding operations comply with applicable codes, standards, and project specifications. The CWI will also be responsible for inspecting welds, reviewing procedures, documenting results, and working closely with welders, engineers, and project management to maintain high quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform visual and dimensional inspection of welds before, during, and after welding
Verify compliance with applicable codes and standards (e.g., AWS, ASME, API, ISO)
Review and verify Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Qualification Records
Identify, document, and report welding defects and non-conformances
Ensure corrective actions are implemented and verified
Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications
Monitor welding processes, materials, and consumables for compliance
Prepare inspection reports and maintain accurate quality records
Coordinate with welders, supervisors, and engineers to resolve quality issues
Support audits, client inspections, and regulatory requirements
Promote safety and quality assurance best practices on-site
Qualifications:
Active AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification (required)
High school diploma or equivalent (technical degree preferred)
Minimum 2-3 years of welding inspection experience
Strong knowledge of welding processes (SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, GTAW, SAW, etc.)
Familiarity with NDT methods (VT required; PT, MT, UT, or RT a plus)
Ability to read and interpret welding symbols and technical drawings
Proficient in inspection documentation and reporting
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Experience with stainless steel piping required. Exposure to Orbital Welding a plus.
