Pharmacy Technician

General description of the job: Receives, processes and.fills (assembles) prescriptions under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, performing only nonjudgmental technical duties. During the input process technician should check any new physician for appropriate licenses, new patient for appropriate pharmacy use (ie, TX DPS patient drug-use database). All pertinent new patient demographics shall be reviewed and placed in the patient's profile, especially drug allergies, pregnancy, and city of residence (shall be scrutinized heavily for inconsistency with our area of service). The assembly tech shall perform "filling" duties. The main focus should be focused on double counts of narcotics, appropriate NOC checks, and appropriate items placed in the individual basket for pharmacist review.

Job activities and responsibilities: Receives on-going education and training as required by regulation and as necessary to perform job. Monitors inventory to assure adequate supplies.

.Orders drugs and equipment with direction of pharmacist. Assists in maintaining quality assurance program. Maintains physical environment of pharmacy according to State and Federal regulations. Monitors outdated stock, rotates stock as needed and returns excess stock for credit. Other tasks as instructed by pharmacist. Assists in orientation and training of new personnel or students under direction of pharmacist.

Minimum qualifications: Must have a high school degree or equivalent. Must hold active registration with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy as a pharmacy technician (CPhT or Technician-in-training).

Other Requirements: Must maintain continuing education and training as required for technician registration. Good interpersonal skills. Good personal hygiene. Courtesy and reliability must be exceptional. Must be physically able to lift 30lbs to waist height.

Supervisor: Pharmacist-in-Charge, or staff pharmacist designated by same.
