$19.48 - $24.85 APPROXIMATE HOURLY

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Farm Advisor is appointed by Cooperative Extension of the University of California. UCCE is a cooperatively supported effort between the county, federal government, and the state (University of California). Generally, the University of California provides program staff with Shasta County providing support staff, vehicles and office space. The Farm advisor's office provides recreational programs and conducts applied research on issues pertinent to Shasta County agriculture, natural and human resources. Statewide networks of agriculture, natural resources, forestry, 4-H, and nutrition and consumer science staff are dedicated to conducting research and extending results to farmers, ranchers, forest landowners, students, teachers and interested citizens.

ABOUT THE POSITION

Under general supervision, the position performs responsible clerical work that requires typing skills; utilizes a variety of pertinent procedures, precedents and policies applicable to the subject matter area to which assigned; and performs related work as required.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The Ideal Candidate will have at least one year of experience in a clerical setting and be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and CANVA. The ability to work independently and in group settings is also imperative. The ideal candidate will possess good written and verbal communication skills, be able to organize and set up events as well as have an upbeat positive attitude

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is the first experienced level in the Typist Clerk class series. Incumbents are expected to possess accurate typing skills and knowledge of clerical methods to perform simple to difficult clerical assignments. Incumbents are expected to use good judgment in recognizing the scope of their authority and in seeking assistance or making referrals.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES



Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Types reports, letters, documents, records, vouchers, requisitions, lists, schedules, orders, notices and statistical and financial data; types letters from rough drafts, marginal notes or verbal instructions; interviews callers in a public office and over the telephone and either furnishes the desired information, refers them to the proper source or arranges an appointment with an appropriate person; receives, distributes and dispatches mail; researches, extracts, transfers and summarizes information from records; may type material of a confidential nature; prepares acknowledgments and replies to letters; checks reports, records and other data for accuracy, completeness and compliance with established standards; checks and tabulates data; receives money in payment of bills, fines and fees, gives receipts and keeps records of collections; follows up on material sent to other people for review or completion; proofreads copy; maintains a variety of financial and statistical records and files; alphabetizes materials; keeps stock of office supplies and orders new supplies when needed; cuts stencils; operates a variety of office equipment, including a calculator, copier and other types; may operate a switchboard; may serve as receptionist; may operate a data entry terminal.

QUALIFICATIONS



Any combination of education and experience sufficient to directly demonstrate possession and application of the following:

Knowledge of:
Modern office practice and procedures; proper techniques in operation of modern office machines.

Ability to:
Type at a speed of not less than 45 words per minute from clear copy; use good judgment in choosing among available alternatives, in recognizing scope of authority, and in seeking assistance; follow oral and written directions; maintain cooperative working relationship with all personnel; deal tactfully and courteously with the public.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

One (1) year of experience comparable to a Typist Clerk I with Shasta County.
