The stated pay scale reflects the range that Sharp reasonably expects to pay for this position. The actual pay rate and pay grade for this position will be dependent on a variety of factors, including an applicant’s years of experience, unique skills and abilities, education, alignment with similar internal candidates, marketplace factors, other requirements for the position, and employer business practices.
What You Will Do
This position provides leadership and operational direction for multifunctional clinical and administrative areas for Sharp Coronado Hospital. The position is accountable for planning, directing and coordinating the operations and system integration of all departments that report to them. This position will also be responsible for the overall operations of the ancillary department (including Pharmacy, Respiratory Therapy, Imaging, Physical Rehab, Healthy Living Center and Laboratory)at Sharp Coronado Hospital.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree healthcare administration, healthcare area, business or related field
- 5 years leadership experience
- 3 years management experience
Preferred Qualifications
- 5 years clinical experience
Essential Functions
-
OPERATIONAL AND STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP
Directs the strategic planning for assigned areas.
Determines direction, goals, and objectives of assigned areas, and ensures implementation of strategic and operating plans. Directs the development of short and long-range plans and budgets for the assigned areas.
Develops and recommends overall organizational policies and objectives within assigned areas and ensures their implementation. Ensures organizational compliance with legislation and regulations as they impact assigned areas.
Responsible for ensuring ongoing problem identification and problem solving for assigned areas and diffuses any crisis issues through proactive and strategic decision-making processes.
Ensures overall operations management, inclusive of cost management, quality of services delivered, employee and resource management, total care delivery, contract services, and applicable outside relationships.
Collaborates with Interdisciplinary Team to standardize, update and/or maintain policies and procedures.
Logistical management of all operational components to deliver quality care/services.
Manages diverse group of multilevel employees for assigned areas.
Achieves superior financial, quality, customer services, and clinical outcomes.
Directs performance improvement for assigned areas and integrates it with other disciplines, nursing departments and entities within the system, as appropriate. -
QUALITY
Maintains quality outcomes through use of clinical expertise, and effective supervisory skills.
Participates in both unit and level of care quality assurance process.
Reviews or coordinates the review of quality variance reports for designated unit or units, identifies trends, and develops action plans for resolution.
Identifies and trends learning needs of staff and works with supervisory and educational personnel to assure needs are met.
Ensures that the standards of care are implemented and evaluated and updated.
Ensures delivery of quality care that meets all accreditation and regulatory standards.
Reviews, revises, develops, and maintains safety policies and procedures related to department activities and work environment. Reviews current operations and assesses proactively with Biomed, Risk Management and others to ensure ongoing compliance. -
FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
Maintains operating unit or units within budgeted cost per UOS. Develops achievable action plans when actual exceeds budgeted cost per UOS.
Contributes to the identification of and operationalizes cost reduction measures or identifies revenue enhancing opportunities.
Develops financial analysis of new programs and services to ensure financial viability and fiscal impacts
Maintains unit and or units productivity as outlined yearly.
Participates in annual budget development. -
HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
Ensures that staff performance appraisals are conducted in a timely manner.
Coaches, counsels, and institutes developmental and corrective action plans as necessary.
Ensures appropriate staff and skill mix for optimal unit functioning.
Ensures that all pertinent information is provided to staff through staff meetings and other forms of formal and informal communication.
Enable staff to participate in scheduling and staffing. Assure schedule is posted within designated time frame.
Assists staff to access services provided by Human Resources and Benefits.
Maintains up-to-date employee records. -
CUSTOMER SERVICE
Consistently communicates in a positive and timely manner with staff members, Sharp employees, physicians, patients and visitors.
Develops collaborative relationships with other departments, entities, healthcare committees, physicians, and other agencies to facilitate and support quality services and financial viability of departments.
Handles problems in a professional and proactive manner.
Demonstrates teamwork, cooperation and responsiveness.
Trends patient satisfaction and implements action plans as necessary to achieve patient satisfaction.
Identifies and trends the needs of the customers served within SHC service line and implements action plans as necessary to achieve customer satisfaction. -

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Specialized, theoretical and technical skills acquired through education and experience.
- Managerial/Supervisory skills-demonstrated ability to remain flexible in rapid change environment and current health care dynamic climate. Two or more years in a leadership position. Demonstrated ability to plan, design and implement and evaluate one’s own work and to work independently with minimal observation or supervision.
- Human Relations skills-demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively and to work collaboratively with multiple others of diverse cultures, education background, experience, etc. Demonstrated knowledge of team building skills and principles of self managed work teams.
- Political Process skills-ability to function well under condition of current environment; ability to collaborate with multiple others; ability to build partnerships with physicians and others.
