Sharon High School is seeking outstanding applicants for the position of Assistant Principal serving approximately 1150 students in grades 9-12. Job Description:


Reporting to the High School Principal, our Assistant Principals play a key role in the development of our learning environments and the management of our schools. As the High School Assistant Principal, you will assist the High School Principal in organizing and fostering a positive, safe environment that is conducive to best meeting the needs of all students, staff, and parents/families. This includes responsibilities such as: leading, directing, counseling, and supervising a variety of personnel and programs; creating effective parent, teacher, student communications; supporting, encouraging, mentoring, and evaluating staff; fostering teamwork between teachers and among staff and parents; and managing budget items.


  • Knowledge of the Massachusetts Learning Standards & 9-12 curriculum, research-based practice for instructional design & delivery, and assessment systems for student learning;
  • Demonstrated skills in data collection, analysis, and interpretation to inform critical decisions at the classroom or school-level;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including effective problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills
  • Effective oral and written communication skills;
  • Solid understanding of the needs of diverse learners and systems of prevention and intervention to support learner needs;
  • Demonstrated skills and understanding of culturally-responsive schools and learning environments;
  • Assist the Principal in developing and maintaining an effective educational program consistent with the mission of the school; meeting and conferring with students, parents, faculty and staff; maintaining records and files; preparing reports;
  • Assist the Principal in the overall administration of the school; interpret and enforce school policies and regulations in accord with the Student Handbook; ensure a safe and secure learning environment;
  • Support the Principal in the collaborative development, implementation, and ongoing refinement of the school improvement plan;
  • Assist the Principal in monitoring compliance with federal, state, and local guidelines
    related to local and state testing programs, special education and English LearnerPrograms;
  • Assist the Principal in planning and implementing professional development/growth opportunities for teachers and staff;
  • Serve as Principal-designee in the absence of the Principal;
  • Propose schedules of classes and extracurricular activities; help schedule courses,students and teachers;
  • Track student attendance and manage student discipline; conduct disciplinary hearings;
  • Maintain a variety of files; prepare periodic and special reports as required;
  • Identify the special needs of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of school system specialists as needed;
  • Supervise and evaluate teachers and departments as assigned by the Principal;
  • Explain and interpret district-wide curriculum/instructional goals and objectives to teachers, parents, students, and the community;
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of a systematic method of supervising the instructional program through the use of learning walks, observations, and follow-up conferences;
  • Assist teachers in evaluating methods and materials and developing effective learning plans and classroom management techniques;
  • Assists in screening, interviewing, and recommending employment for new staff;
  • Support new teachers in collaboration with the Teacher Mentors;
  • Ability to attend after-school and evening events as needed;
  • Other duties as assigned by the Principal.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid and current MA certification as a Principal/Asst. Principal/Coordinator/Director with SEI Administrator endorsement.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5 years high school teaching/counseling experience.
  • Evidence of success in mentoring and coaching teachers.
  • Evidence of strong organizational,interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Evidence of effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience conducting staff evaluations and providing feedback to staff.
  • Ability to plan and supervise the work of others.
  • Knowledge and effective skills in curriculum development, instructional practices, interpretation of data.
  • Knowledge of MA regulations regarding student attendance and discipline.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with parents, students, vendors, community members, and SPS employees.
  • A sense of humor and a proven ability to work in a polite and friendly manner with all employees and community members.
