Position Overview

The Math Interventionist is a dual-role educator dedicated to supporting student achievement and teacher growth. This individual will work directly with struggling math students through co-teaching and intervention strategies while also coaching teachers on effective Tier 2 support and just-in-time interventions. The goal is to strengthen student outcomes and teacher instructional capacity through collaboration, data-driven practices, and targeted support.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, education, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Valid teaching certification in math or a related field.
  • Proven experience teaching mathematics, preferably with struggling learners.
  • Strong understanding of Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions, data-driven instruction, and differentiated learning strategies.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience coaching or mentoring teachers.
  • Expertise in formative assessment and instructional planning.
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with math intervention tools, technology, and progress-monitoring software.

The Math Interventionist plays a pivotal role in advancing both teacher capacity and student success in mathematics, ensuring that every learner has access to the support they need to thrive.

Key Responsibilities

1. Student Support
  • Co-teach three math classes to provide targeted instruction for students struggling with foundational skills.
  • Monitor and track student progress using data, ensuring alignment with learning goals.
  • Develop and implement multi-tiered intervention plans to address diverse student needs, including small-group and one-on-one instruction.
  • Provide just-in-time interventions, ensuring students receive immediate support to master specific skills or concepts during lessons.
  • Conduct pull-out or push-in intervention sessions for students requiring additional remediation beyond the classroom setting.
  • Use research-based intervention strategies to improve students' understanding of foundational skills, problem-solving abilities, and conceptual math knowledge.
  • Offer executive functioning support, such as teaching strategies for organizing work, managing time, and approaching multi-step math problems.
  • Integrate technology-based tools, such as math apps or software, to personalize student learning experiences.
  • Collaborate with special education and ELL staff to address the unique needs of students with IEPs or language barriers.
  • Create supplemental resources, such as step-by-step guides, practice worksheets, and visual aids, to support student understanding.
  • Monitor and celebrate student progress, using data to adjust interventions and maintain student motivation.
2. Teacher Coaching
  • Provide coaching and professional development for teachers on effective Tier 2 instructional strategies, including differentiation, scaffolding, and intervention techniques.
  • Collaborate with teachers to design lessons that integrate interventions seamlessly into core instruction.
  • Offer classroom-based support, such as modeling lessons, observing instruction, and providing feedback on best practices.
  • Guide teachers in analyzing student performance data to inform instruction and intervention planning.
3. Curriculum and Resource Support
  • Assist in the selection and development of instructional materials and tools to support struggling learners.
  • Ensure that instructional strategies align with school and district math standards and goals.
  • Promote the use of research-based practices to close achievement gaps and increase student understanding of mathematical concepts.
4. Collaboration and Communication
  • Work closely with administrators, counselors, and other staff to develop a comprehensive approach to mat``h intervention.
  • Attend and contribute to data meetings, PLCs, and other team collaborations focused on student success.
  • Communicate regularly with families about student progress and strategies for supporting math skills at home.
5. Data and Assessment
  • Use formative and summative assessment data to identify student needs and monitor the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Train teachers to use data to group students, adjust instruction, and provide timely support.
  • Maintain detailed records of intervention efforts and student outcomes.
