The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining the safety, cleanliness, and functionality of residential homes that serve individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This position ensures that facilities remain in good repair and that maintenance tasks are completed promptly to provide a safe, comfortable, and supportive living environment for residents and staff.
Qualifications
**Key Responsibilities**
**1. General Maintenance & Repairs**
- Perform routine inspections of buildings, systems, and grounds while onsite.
- Repair or replace fixtures, doors, windows, flooring, and furniture as needed.
- Conduct basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, drywall repairs and painting work.
- Assist with moves which may require heavy lifting.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests from Property Management Director and on-call.
- Seasonal weeding and garden care.
- Large item trash removal.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, building codes, state regulations and agency policies.
- Maintain safe walkways, including snow/ice removal or debris clearing as needed.
- Test and maintain safety equipment (smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, emergency lighting).
- Assist in preparing for state licensing and regulatory inspections, insuring issues are address in a timely manner.
- Replace air filters, clean out dryer exhausts, change light bulbs, and worn parts regularly.
- Keep maintenance logs and document repairs.
- Work respectfully around residents, always maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.
- Coordinate repairs that require outside contractors with Property Management Director.
- Communicate maintenance updates to supervisors and direct care staff.
Required
- High school diploma or GED.
- 2 years of general maintenance or building repair experience.
- Basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and painting.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs, climb ladders, and perform physical tasks.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
- Clean background check.
- Experience working in Community Living Arrangement (CLA) residential or group home settings.
- Familiarity with state safety regulations for 6400 and 6500 licensed care facilities.
- Attention to detail and safety awareness.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Respectful and compassionate when interacting with residents.
