Shared Hospital Services is looking for a Supervisor Trainee in Portsmouth, Va. We are a 6-day operation with a rotating schedule, with competitive wage depending based on experience. A supervisor trainee is an entry-level professional who learns core leadership, daily operations, and management skills under the guidance of senior staff to prepare for a permanent supervisory role.

The Supervisor Trainee position is a short-term, developmental role designed to build foundational leadership capacity. Trainees participate in structured training programs, shadow experienced managers, and assist with daily workflow, staff oversight, and administrative tasks. Successful completion of the program leads to eligibility for promotion into a full supervisor position.

The Supervisor Trainee works within an industrial production facility to learn and develop the skills necessary to effectively direct the activities of employees in various departments, leaning overall production operations and overall working knowledge of laundry operations and demonstrates superior interpersonal skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Operational Learning: Shadow supervisors to understand daily workflow, scheduling, company policies /safety standards and standard operating procedures.
• Team Support: Assist in delegating tasks, tracking team productivity, and ensuring adherence to company policies.
• Training and Onboarding: Participate in training programs and help onboard new staff members under supervision.
• Problem Solving: Learn how to troubleshoot operational issues, mediate team disputes, and support conflict resolution.
• Administrative Tasks: Maintain training records, enter work data into computer systems, and prepare basic reports.
• Communication: Act as a helpful liaison between frontline staff and senior management.
• Physical Requirements: Must be able to stand or walk 100% of the workday.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent; a college degree in business, management, or an industry-related field is often preferred.
• Experience: Prior customer service or frontline work experience (usually 1 year).
• Communication Skills: Strong verbal and listening skills to instruct and support team members.
• Technical Skills: Basic computer literacy, including familiarity with office applications or inventory/scheduling software.
• Soft Skills: Dependability, strong teamwork abilities, an eagerness to learn, and the ability to make sound operational decisions.
