Direct Service Providers Job Requirements
Shaping Pathways Direct Service Providers may be expected to meet the following criteria and perform these job duties, among others:
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree in psychology, education, or related field preferred.
- Experience: Experience working with children or individuals with developmental disabilities, particularly in an ABA treatment setting, is preferred. Previous experience as a Direct Service Provider (e.g., RBT) or in a similar role is a plus.
- Knowledge: Therapeutic Skills: Knowledge and ability to implement ABA strategies and interventions effectively.
- Skills:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills for working with clients, families, and team members.
- Observation & Data Collection: Ability to accurately observe client behaviors, record data, and interpret results to inform treatment decisions.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to adapt and modify interventions based on individual client needs and progress.
- Time Management: Ability to manage treatment schedules, client needs, and documentation requirements effectively.
- Ability to engage with clients physically (e.g., sitting on the floor, assisting with movement, physical prompting).
- Ability to lift or move objects (up to a certain weight) as needed for the client’s activities or safety.
- Ability to stand or sit for extended periods while working with clients.
- Certifications: Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification is a plus but not required.
- Passion for supporting delivery of high-quality, ethical, and compassionate ABA services
Position Responsibilities:
Implementation of ABA Treatment
- Provide direct one-on-one treatment to clients based on individualized treatment plans as outlined by a BCBA.
Implement evidence-based ABA interventions, including discrete trial training (DTT), natural environment training (NET), and other strategies as prescribed. Implement behavior management strategies to increase desirable behaviors and decrease maladaptive behaviors, under the guidance of a BCBA.
- Monitor client progress and ensure consistency in treatment delivery across sessions.
Data Collection & Reporting
- Collect and record data on client progress during treatment sessions, including target behaviors, skill acquisition, and other relevant metrics.
Use data collection systems to accurately track client performance and progress. Report on client progress to the supervisor and BCBA during team meetings and overlaps.
Client Engagement & Relationship Building
- Develop and maintain positive, trusting relationships with clients to create a safe and supportive treatment environment.
- Engage clients in therapeutic activities that promote learning, social interactions, and the development of new skills.
- Foster an environment of encouragement and motivation to maximize client engagement and success.
Collaboration with Clinical Team
- Work closely with the supervisor and BCBA to ensure that interventions are carried out consistently and with fidelity.
- Attend regular meetings and supervisor supported overlaps to review client progress and receive feedback on performance.
- Communicate any changes in client behavior or concerns to the supervisor and BCBA promptly.
Family & Caregiver Support
- Provide guidance and support to family members and caregivers on implementing strategies and techniques at home to support treatment goals.
- Educate and empower families to participate in their child’s progress and reinforcement systems.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with caregivers, providing updates and addressing concerns as needed.
Maintain Professionalism & Ethical Conduct
- Adhere to ethical guidelines and professional standards in all interactions with clients, families, and team members.
Respect client confidentiality and ensure HIPAA regulations are followed. Attend regular training, workshops, and supervision sessions to stay current with best practices in ABA treatment.
Behavior Management & Safety
- Implement behavior reduction techniques, Skills Based Treatment (SBT) to teach communication, toleration, and cooperation.
- Ensure a safe environment for clients and staff, responding appropriately to challenging behavior situations and teaching opportunities.
- Use appropriate safety measures and de-escalation strategies when managing challenging or unsafe behaviors.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of treatment sessions, client progress, and any incidents that may occur.
- Submit session notes and data in a timely manner to support ongoing assessment and treatment planning.
