Shanti Kids is a preschool - elementary school located in Hialeah, Florida, USA, dedicated to providing fun, age-appropriate classes where all children can learn not only through play and exploration, but also through an academic program that matches their individual learning abilities.
By observing each child's strengths and interests, our teachers create activities that allow children to explore the world, make discoveries, and develop their cognitive, physical, mental, emotional, and social skills using new technologies and digital resources.
Purpose: To provide a warm, nurturing, safe and loving environment where self- concepts are enhanced,
independence encouraged and individually respected. The head teacher reports to the center director.
Description of Duties:
Plan and conduct an effective child development program to meet the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual needs of each child. This should be done based on the goals and general curriculum plan of Shanti Kids Preschool.
Ensure that childcare routines are carried out in a manner that is prompt, hygienic, and consistent with the good child development principles. This includes routines related to diapering potty training, hand washing, eating, napping, and transitioning between activities.
Ensure the safety of the children through constant supervision, effective arrangement of space, proper maintenance of equipment, and regular practice of fire drills and other emergency procedures.
Operate the classroom in compliance with all childcare licensing standards, paying particular attention to ensure that standards prohibiting corporal punishment are obeyed.
Provide supervision to all staff assigned to the classroom and include staff in planning and child development assignments.
Create a pleasant, inviting classroom atmosphere in which children feel comfortable and secure.
Provide positive: guidance to help children develop the ability to be self- disciplined.
Provide experiences which promote individual self- expression in conversation, imaginative play, and creativity.
Provide a variety of language stimulation activities.
Provide experience involving thinking skills such as generalizing, classifying, sorting, and problem solving.
Provide a variety of opportunities to help children develop and understand appropriate relationships with others.
Ensure that parents receive adequate information about their child’s experiences at the center through daily contact and regularly scheduled parent conferences.
Maintain written records designed to evaluate each individual child as well as the class.
Contribute to the operation of the center by participating in staff meetings and information gained through attendance at workshops and professional reading.
Work as a member of a team to ensure continuity of curriculum and a high standard of quality in all classrooms in the center.

Skills
Proven experience as preschool teacher or other similar position
Experience in performance and operations management
Knowledge of relevant regulations and quality standards
Outstanding communication and public speaking skills
Excellent organizational and leadership skills
Aptitude in problem-solving
Florida Teacher certification is an asset
English or Spanish speaker
Must be physically able to perform the job of a teacher of young children, have a warm, supportive attitude toward children, be reliable, flexible in receiving assignments or adapting to changes in the program. Must be willing to accept supervision to improve work performance.
