About The Team
Shaner Hotels has an amazing opportunity at our Courtyard Newark – UD. Located on a beautiful suburban campus, the Courtyard Newark-University of Delaware offers impeccable service coupled with state-of-the-art technology. Our beautifully appointed guestrooms offer all the comforts of home and feature well-lit workstations and complimentary Wi-Fi. We take pride in being one of Delaware’s first "Green Lodging" establishments. The hotel is near many local businesses—including WL Gore, Bank of America, and Siemens—and we are adjacent to Clayton Hall Conference Center, a university-run facility that boasts over 40,000 square feet of meeting space. If it's fun you're looking for, you can test your luck at Delaware Park, experience some of Delaware’s "tax-free" shopping at Christiana Mall or take in some culture in the neighboring Brandywine Valley.
What You’ll Do
- Prepare and serve Starbucks® coffee beverages and bistro menu items with accuracy and speed
- Take guest orders, deliver food & beverages to tables, and ensure every guest feels welcomed
- Collect payments and process transactions accurately
- Keep the Bistro area sparkling clean and fully stocked
- Follow all food & beverage safety standards (hotel, Shaner, and Marriott requirements)
- Communicate effectively with the GM, department managers, and fellow team members
- Complete opening/closing procedures and daily operational checklists
- Jump in to help wherever needed — teamwork makes the dream work!
- Minimum 1 year of experience in food service or hospitality
- Meet the state age requirement to serve alcoholic beverages
- Strong communication skills and a friendly, professional attitude
- ServSafe and/or food safety certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Alcohol awareness training (TIPS or equivalent) preferred
- High school diploma or equivalent (some college a plus)
- Knowledge of local attractions is a bonus — help guests plan their day!
- Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus
