Job Title: Educational Diagnostician
Wage/Hour Status: Annual Salary
Reports to: Director of Special Education
Dept./School: Special Education
Primary Purpose:
Implement the special education assessment process. Assess the educational needs, learning styles, and program requirements of students referred for special education services. Provide diagnostic information and collaborate with instructional personnel to develop and implement appropriate educational programs for students with disabilities.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
-Master’s degree in educational assessment
-Valid Texas teaching certificate
-Valid Texas Educational Diagnostician certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills:
-Knowledge of diagnostic procedures and assessment practices
-Knowledge of special education programs, human development, and learning theories
-Knowledge of federal and state special education laws and regulations
-Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
-Ability to interpret and explain assessment data to a variety of audiences
-Experience using electronic special education management systems (eSped preferred)
Experience:
Minimum of three (3) years of classroom teaching experience
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Assessment:
-Receive student referrals and implement the assessment and evaluation process.
-Select, administer, and interpret formal and informal assessments to determine student eligibility for special education services in compliance with federal and Texas Education Agency regulations.
-Collect, organize, and analyze relevant assessment data from cumulative records, classroom teachers, campus administrators, support staff, parents, and outside agencies. Conduct classroom observations and personal interviews as part of the evaluation process.
-Participate as a member of the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee to assist with interpretation of assessment data, determination of eligibility, appropriate placement, and development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in accordance with district procedures.
-Assist instructional staff with understanding assessment results and implementing IEP goals, accommodations, and modifications.
-Consult with parents regarding assessment findings and the educational needs of students.
-Provide staff development and training to campus personnel related to identification and understanding of students with disabilities.
Program Management:
-Develop and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, teachers, and administrators.
-Assist in the selection of appropriate assessment materials and equipment.
-Develop and coordinate ongoing evaluation of the assessment program and recommend improvements based on findings.
-Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and documentation required by federal, state, and local regulations.
-Ensure compliance with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rules, and local board policy related to assessment, placement, and planning for special education services.
-Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
-Participate in professional development activities to improve skills related to job assignment.
Communication:
-Maintain a positive and effective working relationship with supervisors.
-Communicate effectively with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
