Dietary Aide Position Summary:
The Dietary Aide will maintain the dining room for all residents including preparation of dining room for meals, cleaning of dishes, and assistance with dessert preparation. This hourly position is considered part of the Food Service Department. The person in this position will report directly to the Director of Food & Beverage.
Responsibilities:
BREAKFAST
- Put out cereal and milk
- Check tables for silverware, glasses, coffee cups, cleanliness, paper napkins, clothe napkins, and placemats
- Put out condiments according to menu
- Set up fruit
- Set up drink cart
- Serve drinks
- Serve plates
- Clean up dishes in dining room
- Take cloth napkins to facility laundry room and put in bag.
- Wash breakfast dishes in kitchen
- Clean tables, table bases & chairs in Dining room
- Set up tables for lunch
- Inspect each table cloth for cleanliness and change if soiled at all.
- Wipe carousal after each meal.
- Keep within Health Department regulations for cleanliness and proper temperature of the food.
- Wear hairnet at all times while on duty.
- Sweep under each table and entire dining room floor and mop up spills.
- Keep wet floor sign at entrance of dining room.
- Keep coffee area clean, stocked, and neat at all times.
- Circulate around tables during the ENTIRE meal checking on residents as asking if they need anything.
- Wipe down all food carts to remove food and beverage debris.
LUNCH
- Set up desserts for lunch
- Set up desserts

- Wipe carousal after each meal.
- Keep within Health Department regulations for cleanliness and proper temperature of the food.
- Wear hairnet at all times while on duty.
- Take clothe linen bag to storage room before leaving.
- Sweep under each table and entire dining room floor and mop up spills.
- Keep wet floor sign at entrance of dining room.
- Keep coffee area clean, stocked, and neat at all times.
- Circulate around tables during the ENTIRE meal checking on residents as asking if they need anything.
- Wipe down all food carts to remove food and beverage debris.
SANITATION
- Do not store brooms, mops, dust pans, etc. in the dining room. Store in mop closet in kitchen unless being used.
Qualifications:
Knowledge of good sanitation practices in the preparation of meals. Basic understanding of food groups and how they apply to mature adults. Must have an outgoing personality, patience and compassion. Flexibility and the ability to communicate in a pleasant voice and manner. Experience working with older adults is helpful. Experience in special diets preferred. Must exhibit teamwork with all departments.
Supervisory responsibility:
This position requires no direct supervision of other staff.
Equipment to be used:
Will use all necessary equipment related to the preparation of dining room and serving of all meals.
Mental and Physical demands:
The dietary aide must be able to meet a work schedule with multi-faceted tasks. Physically he or she must have the stamina to carry out repetitive activities and the hand dexterity with which to operate kitchen equipment.
He or she must have the physical strength to lift and manipulate weights of at least 40-pounds. This is to ensure the proper cleaning of equipment for proper set up and carrying out of meal serving clean up. Must complete a minimum of 15 hours of training annually and provide documentation.
Working Conditions:
You will be working in the kitchen and dining room areas.
Dress code:
The dietary aide must always dress professionally and wear company name badge. Appropriate clothing is black pants, blue shirt. (Jeans, shorts, sports clothes and sandals are not acceptable daily attire). Staff must wear clean blue aprons at all times.
Employment is contingent upon proof of USA citizenship or work permit, a valid Virginia driver’s license, criminal background check and passage of a drug screening.
