About The Job
The JFS Early Childhood Therapist will provide counseling and therapy services to approximately 10-12 JFS clients weekly through individual, family, and group interventions. In addition to direct clinical work, the Early Childhood Therapist will provide consultation, training and mentorship, and other behavioral health services to our on-site Early Childhood Program, which serves children from infants through 5 years old. Opportunities may be available to provide consultation and other behavioral health services to other on-site educational and social programs including our after-school program (serving grades K-5), an on-site private elementary and middle school (serving grades K-8), and summer day camps for youth and teens. Finally, the Early Childhood Therapist may have the opportunity to provide and receive professional development trainings related to serving youth, family, and all populations mentioned above.

You’ll wow us by masterfully performing the following key duties and responsibilities:
- Counseling: Perform on-site and/or remote telehealth clinical counseling services to Jewish Family Service clients and ECP students, in accordance with agency policies. Service demographics include children and their families. Interventions may include individual, family, and group therapy, play therapy, and crisis intervention.
- General Direct Service: Provide additional social services to clients as needed, such as advocacy, service linkage, referrals, and collaboration with schools and other providers. Maintain knowledge of current resources in the Greater Austin area.
- Early Childhood Program support: Provide behavioral health consultation and support that meets the needs of ECP staff and families. Provide observations and recommendations to teachers and parents regarding emotion regulation and other behavioral needs. Work with administration and staff to support the school. Provide staff training as needed.
- Documentation and Record Keeping: Maintain professional and timely documentation of services in electronic medical record and student files, as relevant, including, but not limited to intake notes, progress notes, treatment plans, termination notes, contract notes, observation notes, recommendations, and other forms or documents which may be needed or required from time-to-time. Track and use program-related data to enhance service effectiveness.
- Collaboration: Partner closely with fellow clinical staff, ECP teachers and administration, and all Shalom Austin staff to serve the needs of clients and community. Attend mandatory staff meetings, trainings, biweekly clinical supervision and offer coverage when needed.
- Community Outreach and Education: Collaborate with other institutions and professionals in the Jewish community, and in the Austin mental health and social services network. Engage in ongoing outreach and community engagement through implementation of psychoeducation, parent education through community events, collaboration, and networking.
- Masters or doctoral degree from accredited program in social work, counseling, psychology, or other behavioral health field
- Licensed or license eligible in Texas.Candidates with provisional licensure are expected to obtain full licensure within 120 days of meeting all eligibility requirements.
- Comfortable working with young children and clients from a variety of social and economic backgrounds.
- Experience counseling children and families with a variety of mental health needs.
- Basic knowledge of child development.
- Excellent time management and written and verbal communication skills.
- Comfort working both independently and with a multi-disciplinary team.
- Comfort and competency in coaching and counseling virtually.
- Experience working with an early childhood population and/or in an early childhood setting.
- Working knowledge of Greater Austin mental health and social service resources and referrals.
- Cultural competence with Judaism or Jewish culture.
