What are the responsibilities and job description for the Childrens Librarian position at SHAKER HEIGHTS PUBLIC LIBRARY?
Shaker Heights Public Library seeks a creative person to join our Youth Services team. Work with youth in a vibrant, collaborative atmosphere. You will help customers find information, recommend books and other media, produce programs, and help to develop the collection. Candidates must enjoy using technology and provide excellent customer service.
Responsibilities:

Providing a variety of professional library services for customers of all ages; including reference, readers’ advisory, and technology assistance.

Serving customers in the Children’s Room, Teen Room, and the TechHub.

Selecting materials for the Youth Services collection and providing ongoing collection maintenance.

Developing and implementing programs for youth based on community needs.

Collaborating with other staff and community partners to provide innovative library services.

Serving as the building Senior Person as assigned.
Qualifications:

MLIS from an ALA accredited school or completion of 75% of coursework towards an MLIS with completion of the degree within one year of hiring.

General knowledge of youth developmental stages

Knowledge of youth literature and popular reading interests

Experience working with groups of children and teens

Customer service experience

Strong communication skills, both oral and written

Ability to quickly learn new technologies
Union Status: This is a union position.
Pay rate: $23.90-$28.09 per hour
Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week. This position works a variety of day, evening, and weekend hours
Benefits: The library offers health, dental, and life insurance beginning on Day 1. As well as generous paid time off including vacation, sick, and holiday hours.
Pay Information: SHPL typically hires new staff in at the entry rate of the posted pay scale. Exceptions may be made for successful applicants who have significant (5 years) direct experience in the position at a level beyond what is expected of a new hire.
