What are the responsibilities and job description for the RESLIFE WEEKEND NURSE AM position at Shady Side Academy?
Reporting to the Director of Nursing the Residential Life Weekend Nurse is the primary caregiver and point of contact for our boarding students. There are approximately 80 students who reside on campus. The Residential Life Weekend Nurse will be responsible for the overall health of the boarding students. This includes providing medications to the students (over the counter and prescription), caring for any acute illness or injury, scheduling appointments, including follow-up appointments, and making parent phone calls.
Hours
1-2 weekends/month- as needed
Saturday 8:00am-4:00pm and on-call overnight (10:00pm-8:00am)
Sunday 8:00am-4:00pm
Qualifications:
Primary Responsibilities
- Hold office hours for boarding students throughout the course of the weekend.
- Attend to sick and injured children.
- Schedule any appointments, including follow-up appointments.
- Contact and advise parents regarding illnesses and injuries, if a student needs to leave school or in case of medical emergency.
- Maintain a daily medical log describing symptoms, medical treatment, etc.
- Maintain and administer medication and treatments to students as requested by families.
- Be available and serve as first responder in any emergency illness/injury situations, and perform first aid to sick or injured persons following protocol established by the Director of Nursing.
- Communicate the Director of Nursing and with the Counselor as needed.
- Communicate with Dorm Parents/Dean of Student and Residential Life regarding any concerns/events with students.
- Keep electronic records.
- Comply with PA State guidelines and Academy policy.
- Other duties as deemed appropriate by the Director of Nursing.
Requirements
- Candidates must have a current PA license, CPR certification, and Act 33/34 clearances.
- Ideal candidates will have:
- three to five years of experience as a pediatric or acute care nurse
- a positive and warm bedside manner
- a demonstrated passion for working with and teaching adolescents
- superior interpersonal and communication skills
Compensation
Compensation is competitive with area independent schools and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Brunch is provided when school is in session.
