The Golf Shop Merchandiser is responsible for maximizing sales and profitability of the golf shop merchandise operations while delivering exceptional customer service to members and guests. This role requires strong knowledge in retail strategy, inventory management, vendor relations, and visual merchandising. In addition, key responsibilities include Golf Shop cleanliness, working on special orders for the membership and a passion for enhancing the member experience.
- Train, motivate, and mentor golf shop staff to ensure high performance in merchandise sales and customer service.
- Become proficient with Jonas POS and ForeTees tee time and event registration system.
- Execute daily email and phone correspondence with staff, vendors and members.
- Provide personalized assistance to members and guests both in person and over the phone. Build strong relationships with members to understand and anticipate their preferences and needs.
- Enhance the shopping experience of members and guests through attentive service and expert product knowledge on the shop floor.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and visually appealing golf shop aligned with industry best practices and suggest re-orders as needed.
- Collaborate with the Golf Shop Consultant/Buyer to execute strategic merchandising plans.
- Develop merchandise displays with visual presentation guidelines.
- Complete accurate financial forecasts based on current trends while analyzing sales and inventory reports for profitability.
- Manage vendor performance to maximize profitability and achieve financial objectives.
- Process stock and special orders into inventory and coordinate timely invoice payment with accounting.
- Process inventory returns with proper documentation and accounting backup.
- Execute monthly physical count of inventory with reconciliation.
- Monitor sales for pricing consistency and accuracy.
- Develop and execute annual merchandising events calendar to promote all merchandise events (trunk sales, pop up shops, special programs, etc.).
- Build a strong relationship with the membership and the members’ wants and needs. Initiate and follow up on all special orders in a timely manner. Ensure all special orders are properly invoiced when the order is placed.
- Assist in buying prizes for Events at the Club.
- Employee may perform other related duties to meet the ongoing needs of the company as requested by the supervisor.
- Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing, with members and employees, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact and diplomacy to defuse anger and collect accurate information and to resolve problems.
- Aptitude to effectively deal with the wants and needs of both members and guests.
- Ability to read, listen and communicate with members, guests and staff.
- Basic mathematical skills in order to perform moderately complex accounting summaries.
- Ability to stand and walk continuously in order to perform essential job functions for an eight-plus hour shift.
- A broad knowledge of golf merchandise and apparel.
- Ability to work closely and to communicate with all Golf Shop Staff.
- High School graduate or equivalent required. College degree preferred.
