Salary Range: $100,000 – $150,000 annually
Position Description
ShadowObjects, LLC is seeking a highly experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to support advanced engineering initiatives within a Department of Defense (DoD) environment in Dahlgren, VA. This is a full-time, on-site position supporting mission-critical programs.
The selected candidate will serve as a subject matter expert responsible for leading mechanical design efforts and supporting the full lifecycle of engineering development, including design, analysis, testing, and production of complex mechanical and electromechanical systems.
Primary Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and evaluate mechanical and electromechanical systems and components
- Apply principles of mechanics and materials to assess system performance and reliability
- Lead design efforts for mechanical assemblies, including fabrication, assembly, and installation
- Develop and improve manufacturing processes by designing and modifying production equipment and methods
- Perform mechanical and thermal stress analysis to ensure system integrity under operational conditions
- Conduct and support testing to validate system performance and design requirements
- Plan and execute engineering projects to meet technical, schedule, and performance objectives
- Develop technical data packages (TDPs) and engineering documentation in accordance with DoD standards and instructions
Required Qualifications
- Active Final Top Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility in Defense Information System for Security
- U.S. Citizenship required
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in an engineering, scientific, or technical discipline
- Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in mechanical design and engineering, including the design, manufacture, and testing of mechanical assemblies
Required Experience
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate mechanical and electromechanical systems using principles of mechanics and materials
- Experience developing manufacturing processes, including designing and modifying equipment for fabrication, assembly, and installation
- Experience with solid modeling and finite element modeling (FEM) techniques
- Experience performing mechanical and thermal stress analysis
- Experience using CAD software such as SolidWorks and PTC Creo, as well as Microsoft Visio for system design and documentation
- Experience developing technical data packages (TDPs) in accordance with DoD standards
- Experience with extreme power internal combustion engines and systems
- Experience in shock and vibration modeling and simulation
- Experience with Highly Accelerated Life Testing (HALT) and Highly Accelerated Stress Screening (HASS) methodologies
- Proven background in design for manufacturability (DFM)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting DoD or defense-related programs
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
- Ability to work independently and lead technical efforts
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
