What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Assistant position at Shades Valley Dermatology?
We are a busy, multi-provider dermatology practice seeking to hire a full-time Medical Assistant. This position involves performing patient-oriented procedures under the supervision of a physician or physician assistant in a private practice setting.
Travel to our Vestavia Hills location to assist providers is required. Work hours are typically from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, depending on daily schedules, with workdays occurring Monday through Friday.
Candidates MUST have previous Medical Assistant experience in an office environment, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Interacting professionally with physicians, patients, coworkers, and management is essential. Prior dermatology experience is recommended.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Directing patients to the appropriate exam/treatment room and preparing them for examinations and other procedures
- Documenting patient information and visit details in electronic medical records (EMR)
- Assisting providers with procedures and data entry into EMR as directed
- Performing various clerical duties, including scheduling appointments and submitting prior authorizations and referrals
- Setting up for biopsies and surgeries
- Conducting phlebotomy for routine laboratory procedures and providing wound care, including removing sutures
- Instructing and educating patients following clinic visits and procedures
- Maintaining, cleaning, and sterilizing medical equipment
- Mixing medications for injections and topical solutions, when necessary
- Answering patient questions as directed by the provider promptly, by phone and through secure messaging
- Collecting, labeling, and documenting specimens
- Logging all biopsy and lab results
- Interacting with pharmaceutical representatives to gather information to improve patient care
- Cleaning exam rooms between patient visits
- Properly disposing of infectious and hazardous waste
Skills Needed:
- Proven work experience as a Certified Medical Assistant
- Exceptional customer service skills
- Excellent organizational and planning abilities with attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Experience with electronic medical records is preferred
- Familiarity with inventory/stocking of medical supplies
- Professional demeanor
- Ability to maintain consistent attendance and thrive in the fast-paced environment of a dermatology clinic
