Experienced Medical Receptionist – Dermatology

Shades Valley Dermatology is seeking an experienced Medical Receptionist for our Vestavia Hills office. This is not an entry-level medical office position. We are looking for someone who already has hands-on experience working in a medical practice and understands patient scheduling, insurance eligibility, copays/deductibles, patient balances, referrals, and day-to-day front office workflows.

At least 1 year of recent medical front office experience is REQUIRED. Applicants without medical office experience will not be considered. Dermatology or another specialty-practice background is highly preferred.

Schedule & Pay

* $18/hour

* Part-time, in-office position

* Tuesday–Thursday

* One Friday morning per month

* No evenings or weekends

* Potential to add Mondays and grow into a full-time position as our provider schedules expand

* Position based primarily in Vestavia Hills

Initial training will include time at our Jasper office, so reliable transportation and the ability to travel to Jasper during the training period are required. Occasional Jasper coverage may also be needed after training.

What You'll Do

* Check patients in and out efficiently and professionally

* Schedule appointments and manage patient flow

* Register patients and maintain accurate demographic and insurance information

* Verify insurance eligibility and benefits

* Collect copays, deductibles, outstanding balances, and other patient payments

* Process referrals, medical records requests, and prior authorizations

* Answer phones and communicate professionally with patients

* Assist with basic billing and front-office documentation

* Maintain HIPAA-compliant patient information

* Coordinate closely with providers, nurses, and other staff

Required:

* 1 year of recent medical front office/reception experience

* Experience verifying insurance and collecting copays, deductibles, and patient balances

* Experience with medical scheduling and electronic health records

* Strong understanding of medical office workflows

* Excellent communication, organization, and multitasking skills

* Reliable attendance and transportation

* Ability to travel to Jasper for initial training and occasional coverage

* 50 WPM typing speed

Preferred:

* Dermatology experience

* ModMed/EMA experience

* Specialty medical practice experience

* Experience with referrals, prior authorizations, and basic billing
