The General Laborer supports Austin Wood Recycling’s production and grinding operations by performing general clean-up duties in yard production areas and field job sites. This role follows the operational schedule of the production and grinding teams and is expected to work safely, efficiently, and professionally in outdoor environments. The position is important to maintaining safe, organized, and productive worksites while supporting AWR’s standards for quality, sustainability, and dependable service.
- Perform general clean-up duties within the yard production area and/or grinding field sites.
- Safely and efficiently operate equipment such as skid steers, tractors, lawn mowers, and weed-eaters; training provided if needed.
- Conduct basic equipment inspections and report maintenance needs.
- Report all accidents and injuries, regardless of severity.
- Follow all standard operating procedures and processes related to general clean-up duties within the production and job-site area.
- Wear required safety gear at all times, including safety toe shoes or boots, vest, hard hat, and gloves.
- Maintain a professional demeanor when engaging with customers and coworkers.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or assigned by management.
- Ability to work up to approximately 60 hours per week, including Saturdays, with overtime as needed; hours not guaranteed.
- Must pass a drug screen.
- Must be able to lift up to 70 pounds frequently and perform repetitive motions.
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time and walk for short periods.
- Must be able to bend and stoop throughout the workday, including when lifting debris and using shovels.
- Must be able to climb and descend stairs and ladders.
- Must be able to work in an outdoor environment with exposure to heat, cold, dust, and noise.
- Must be able to travel to different job locations.
- Ability to carry out responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws.
- Skid steer, tractor, and mower experience preferred.
- Fluency in a second language is highly desired, though not a strict requirement.
- Prior experience working in general labor, production, yard operations, or similar outdoor industrial environments preferred.
- General clean-up duties performed in yard production areas and grinding field sites.
- Outdoor work environment with exposure to weather, dust, and noise.
- Slow Season schedule: 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with occasional Saturdays.
- Busy Season schedule: 6:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
- Safety gear is required and expected to be worn at all times.
