The Head of Technical Services is the lead technical authority for Shades by Matiss, responsible for overseeing a small, high-performing team that supports the company’s operations across all branches and divisions. This role manages the Motorization Product Manager and Director of Special Projects, serving as the bridge between technical execution, systems integration, and business operations.
The ideal candidate is hands-on, mechanically inclined, and technologically fluent, with the ability to master both the physical and digital systems that drive the company’s manufacturing, product integration, and customer experience. Key Responsibilities
· Lead, manage, and develop the Technical Services Team, including the Motorization Product Manager and Director of Special Projects.
· Serve as the company’s primary technical expert, capable of supporting projects from concept through on-site integration and troubleshooting.
· Develop comprehensive expertise in all Shades by Matiss shading systems, including advanced motorization, automation, and exterior applications.
· Achieve mastery of the ERP system (e-pic) to ensure accurate, efficient, and optimized manufacturing and operational workflows.
· Become proficient with the production machinery and factory systems that drive manufacturing efficiency and precision.
· Provide on-site and remote support for complex projects, installations, and system integrations, collaborating with customers, installers, and project managers.
· Support the rollout and integration of new products and technologies, offering both internal and external training as needed.
· Collaborate cross-functionally with Production, Sales, Customer Service, and Operations teams to resolve technical challenges and improve processes.
· Contribute to the continuous improvement of company-wide systems, processes, and workflows through hands-on technical problem-solving.
· Lead technical evaluations and testing of new tools, systems, and machinery.
· Develop and maintain technical documentation, training materials, and standard operating procedures.
· Stay current on advances in motorization, automation, and systems integration to ensure Shades by Matiss remains at the forefront of innovation
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Technology, Construction Management, or a related technical field preferred; equivalent experience accepted.
· Minimum of 5 years of experience in a technical operations, systems integration, or automation role within manufacturing, construction, or related industries.
· Strong mechanical aptitude with demonstrated hands-on ability to understand and troubleshoot machinery, electronics, and integrated systems.
· Proven experience with ERP systems and manufacturing technologies; experience with e-pic or similar systems a strong plus.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and general IT applications.
· Leadership experience managing or mentoring small technical teams.
· Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with attention to detail.
· Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.
· Comfort with fieldwork, including job site visits and hands-on troubleshooting.
· Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple ongoing projects.
