Shade Tree Academy is seeking a trauma-informed and mission-driven Behavioral Health Interventionist (BHI) to guide classroom behavioral and emotional support systems for students impacted by foster care and complex trauma. This critical role involves developing individualized interventions, supporting high-acuity needs, and ensuring daily program consistency in a highly structured, therapeutic learning environment.
The BHI will engage students in co-regulation, de-escalation, trauma-informed instruction, and emotional resilience. Additionally, the BHI will play a key role in maintaining program fidelity—ensuring that daily routines (including Safe Spot resets, calming strategies, rhythmic activities, and social-emotional learning) are implemented with consistency and care.

Key Responsibilities:
Behavior Planning & Clinical Expertise
- Provide educational support one on one and in small groups in the classroom, teaching all subject matter.
- Meet with the team to create SMART goals for students, monitor progress.
- Facilitate social and emotional learning groups including creating lesson plans.
- Document progress towards grades as well as social and emotional learning goals.
- Provide direct support for students in crisis, including in-the-moment de-escalation and post-incident follow-up.
- Participate in staff meetings as well as ongoing professional development.
- Communicate with team members to monit
- Teach and model calming techniques and regulation strategies for students.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Education, Social Work, Applied Behavior Analysis, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of experience supporting children with high behavioral and emotional needs, preferably in foster care or trauma-exposed populations.
- Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques and crisis management procedures is essential for ensuring safety during behavioral episodes.
- Familiarity with applied behavior analysis (ABA), behavior management strategies, and data collection methods is required.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals exhibiting challenging behaviors or mental health concerns such as PTSD or addiction issues.
- Excellent communication skills for collaborating with team members, families, and healthcare providers.
- Compassionate attitude combined with energetic engagement to motivate positive change in students’ lives.
- Certification in CPR/First Aid is preferred; willingness to obtain relevant certifications upon hire is required.
