What are the responsibilities and job description for the Specialized Program Paraprofessional position at Sgt Jordan Shay Memorial (Formerly Amesbury Elem.)?
Students in the Specialized programs are identified as students with Developmental Delay, Intellectual Impairment, Communication, Autism, or other complex learning needs. Students may have challenges in their academic, language/communication, social, self-help, and behavior skill development. All students require intensive, highly specialized and individualized instruction and support to access learning.
Program Description: Students in substantially separate programs support grade PK-2 students with intensive special education needs. Students require a small group learning environment with a low student to staff ratio. This position requires assisting teachers in the classroom with a wide range of student needs, both academic and behavioral. The individual must have the ability to collaborate with teachers regarding student progress academically and provide individualized instruction.
Teaching and Learning
• Assist in the educational and social development of students under the direction and guidance of special education and classroom teachers
• Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans for the students and monitor their progress
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with staff and students
• Flexibility to adjust to different issues with students
• Ability to assist and help students with their academic and non-academic issues to enable them to fully participate in learning
• Assist students in developing appropriate social skills
• May require toileting
