Job Description
SGS is looking for a Mechanical Inspector near Union City, Indiana for a contract expected to last ~8 months or until the facility is in service.
The Mechanical Inspector will support construction activities by performing field inspections and verifying that mechanical installations meet project requirements, applicable codes, and safety standards. This role works closely with site supervision and reports to the Lead Mechanical Inspector.
- Perform field inspections of mechanical installations including piping and equipment
- Verify materials, fabrication, and installation comply with drawings and specifications
- Witness mechanical and pressure testing activities
- Document inspection results, punch list items, and deficiencies
- Verify corrective actions and support mechanical completion walk‑downs
- Communicate quality or safety concerns to inspection leadership
- Follow all site safety and inspection procedures
Qualifications
- 10 years of mechanical inspection and/or industrial construction experience in active construction environments
- AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification – strongly preferred
- API 510 (Pressure Vessel Inspector) certification – strongly preferred
- API 570 (Piping Inspector) certification – nice to have
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety certification (or equivalent) is preferred
- Demonstrated experience inspecting piping systems, pressure systems, and mechanical equipment
- Strong working knowledge of ASME and API codes applicable to industrial construction and pressure systems Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, piping isometrics, mechanical drawings, and project specifications Strong attention to detail with the ability to accurately document inspection findings, deficiencies, and corrective actions
- Strong computer skills (MS Office suite).
- Good communication skills – verbal and written.
- Shift Schedule: Monday to Friday 7 am to 5 pm
- A per diem and milage will be paid depending on the location of the contractor
- The position will be for approximatively 8 months or until the site is in service
- The candidate will need their own vehicle to get to site.
