We are seeking a full-time Geotechnical Lab Technician based in the US to join our dynamic team at SGS Towers in our Omaha, NE office. In this role, you will play a crucial part in supporting our geotechnical projects by performing testing on field investigation samples and ensuring quality standards are met. Your contributions will be vital to our mission of delivering superior service to our clients.
Duties and Responsibilities
● Complies with all project, company and client safety guidelines and procedures
● Performs physical tests of materials (soils, concrete, asphalt, aggregate) in lab according to prescribed standards
● Performs tests at construction site according to prescribed standards
● Provide daily observation reports for all field work being performed, including photographs taken during the progression of the inspection
● Sets up, adjusts and operates laboratory/testing equipment and instruments
● Collects and analyzes samples (soil, concrete, asphalt, aggregate, etc.
● Tests samples to verify conformity to specifications
● Records test results according to prescribed standards
● Cleans laboratory equipment and lab facility
● Performs construction observation tasks and responsibilities on construction activities
● Maintains appropriate field/logbook and prepare project documentation according to project procedures
● May participate in drilling as a driller’s helper, surveying or other construction engineering related activities
● Reports to the project supervisor progress of work including technical issues, concerns, and status of work remaining
● Reviews plans, specifications and submittals related to the assigned work
● Completes assigned tasks within the allotted schedule and budget and according to proper project procedures
● Maintains company-owned vehicle or other equipment assigned for use on the project
● Completes other responsibilities as assigned by Field/Lab Manager or Group Manager
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
● Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
● Working knowledge of a variety of computer programs, including MS Office.
● Ability to accurately take and record measurements specified in design drawings.
● Excellent written and oral communication skills.
● Willing to travel to construction sites across the United States
● Heavy equipment and or excavator experience preferred
● Be able to perform physically demanding labor such as shoveling and lifting
● Safety awareness
● Being an adaptable and accountable team member.
Preferred Education & Certifications
ACI Level I Field Testing Technician for Concrete testing certification
ICC Reinforced Concrete Special Inspector certification
ICC Certified Soil Special Inspector certification
Civil Engineering experience or interest

Work Environment Conditions
Assignments will be in a lab setting or on active construction sites in varying locations across the United States.
