Summary:
- We are looking for a Prototype Assembly Technician specializing in optical system assembly and custom tool operation. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in opto-mechanical and electrical assembly techniques (soldering, lamination, machining) and has a good attention to organization and cleanliness. The ideal candidate should be extremely motivated and able to work independently and with ambiguity. Experience in optical, mechanical and electrical testing is a plus.
Responsibilities:
- Lamination and processing of optical assemblies for prototypes
- Hands on active alignment of optical modules used in AR devices
- Careful hand assembly work and part processing
- Rework of prototypes and components, both mechanically and electrically
- Operating custom calibration and assembly equipment
- Writing documentation and reports relating to assembly practices and opto-mechanical test data
Minimum Qualifications:
- Mechanical background and aptitude
- 5 years of experience in a related technical field
- BS in ME, optics or related technical field
- Experience in R&D lab for product development
- Rapid prototyping (multi-disciplinary collection of skills)
- Laser safety experience
- Calibration experience (camera-based sensors)
- Experience authoring SOPs for assembly and test
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with clean room procedures and equipment
- Optical metrology experience
- Prior work in AR/VR or optical consumer products
Must-Have Skills:
- Read and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings and mechanical models
- Clear and concise documentation of assembly and test procedures and reports
- Familiarity with safely operating lasers (up to Class 3B/3R)

- NX
- Vendor interactions - explore new sources of tools, processes, and materials
- Python, C
