Linguist II [Phonetics, phonology expert]
The main function of a Linguist is to determine speech data needs and setting strategic vision for data-based model and product improvements.
Key Projects/Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
Phonetics, phonology
- setting data and strategy
- transcription evaluation, data evaluation
- audio to text transcription
Must-Have Skills
1.Knowledge of phonetics, phonology, sociolinguistics, dialectology, and other areas of linguistics. Transcription Knowledge in transcription and annotation systems such as SAMPA, IPA, and ToBI.
2.Native or near-native speaker of at least 2 languages.
- One must be English.
- Second could be any (Thai, Tagalog, German, Italian, French preferred.)
Knowledge of prescriptive writing and punctuation conventions for at least one language.
3.Data Engineering. Data – Query Technical skills, Python and SQL, Working with LLM’s.
Degrees/Certifications Required: Master’s degree highly preferred, or Bachelors with 3 years in Phonetics, Phonology and other must have skills
Are there any immediate disqualifiers or red flags that stand out? BA without linguist experience or phonetics and phonology experience, no transcription
Interview: 2 Rounds – 45 minutes
1st Round – General info, background, and data related questions to understand linguist intuition. General behavioral questions
2nd Round – Technical, prompts for SQL Query, Python. Text normalization
Salary : $50 - $57
