SGC Survey is hiring multiple SUE Technicians!! The SUE Technician is responsible for assisting the SUE Crew Chief in the thorough, accurate, and safe operation of Level A and Level B SUE projects to which they are assigned. The SUE Technician works with the SUE Crew Chief, SUE Project Manager, and SUE Manager or other designated individuals to complete projects within scope, on schedule, and on budget.
** This is a traveling role and will be per diem and overtime eligible. Compensation is based on experience. **
Duties and Responsibilities the SUE Technician:
- Adhere to and ensure compliance with all SGC Safety protocols during SUE project field operations.
- Responsible for assisting the SUE Crew Chief in the safe, thorough, and accurate production of SUE projects to which they are assigned.
- Work collaboratively with project team members to accomplish project goals.
- Participate in training with and observing the practices of the SUE Crew Chief to expand their skillset with SUE Level A and B equipment and procedures.
- The SUE Technician should seek to expand their skillset to the point that they are prepared for promotion to the SUE Crew Chief role.
Primary tasks:
- Ensure that safety is the top priority of all field operations including, but not limited to, loading and unloading equipment, mobilization to and from project sites, and conducting the various tasks involved with Level A and Level B SUE field production.
- Actively participate in a safety briefing documented by a Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) report upon arrival at each job site or at any time site conditions or tasks change.
- The SUE Technician should understand and utilize their “Stop Work Authority” whenever any possible safety hazard is observed or suspected.
- Scope Management – Participate in a scope briefing with the SUE Crew Chief prior to mobilizing or upon arriving at project sites. The SUE Crew Chief shall carry out instructions provided by the SUE Crew Chief to safely, thoroughly, and accurately collect SUE data on projects to which they are assigned.
- Cost Management – The SUE Technician shall follow the directives of the SUE Crew Chief with whom they are paired to assist in completing projects to which they are assigned within or under the allotted budget.
- Reporting – The SUE Technician shall assist the SUE Crew Chief at their direction in the thorough, accurate, and professional documentation of SUE Level A and Level B field activities including photo documentation, sketching of found utilities, Level A Test Hole Data Reports, and notes detailing any pertinent information about any subsurface utility detected or above ground subsurface utility indictor observed.
- Relationship Management – The SUE Technician should conduct themselves in a courteous and professional manner when communicating with SGC personnel, SGC client field personnel, other contractors on job sites, and the public at large.
- The SUE Technician shall follow the direction of the SUE Crew Chief regarding communication with clients, other contractors, and the public at large.
- Closeout – Prior to leaving and project site, the SUE Technician shall observe the SUE Crew Chief during a debriefing meeting with the SUE PM or SUE Manager to ensure that there will be no need for return trips.
- Develop and maintain a professional rapport with client, project team members, and internal/external stakeholders.
- Demonstrate leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skills.
- Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures.
- SUE Technician Skill Development – The SUE Technician shall actively seek training and attempt to acquire knowledge from the SUE Crew Chief while conducting Level A and Level B SUE field activities. o The SUE Crew Chief will closely supervise and conduct quality checks on all SUE tasks completed by a SUE Technician.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Entry level understanding and ability to utilize GPR and EM Locators to account for all subsurface utilities within a particular project scope that are detectable.
- Entry level knowledge of all Level A SUE excavation equipment and procedures.
- Entry level Knowledge of computer applications and functions including, but not limited to, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and project management software (Microsoft Project, Project Insight, etc.).
- Proactively seek training and experience with all aspects of Level A and Level B SUE Field activities.
- Ability to work in a team environment and efficiently follow the directions of the SUE Crew Chief.
- Ability to respond or defer to the direction of the SUE Crew Chief regarding common inquiries or complaints from clients, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
- Ability to travel and work extended hours for project assignments and meetings.
Education and Experience:
- A High School Diploma or equivalent certificate of education.
- Natural survey or utility experience is preferred.
Physical Demands: Duties are performed in a field environment.
- Must be able to safely walk, bend, crouch, as well as other physical activities necessary to the thorough capture of SUE data.
- Must be able to lift and carry equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds for short distances.
- Must be able to withstand working in harsh weather conditions (hot or cold).
- Must be able to remain standing, walking, digging, as well as other strenuous activities for many hours on end.
- Safely operate and maintain SUE equipment including, but not limited to, their assigned truck, GPR, EM Locator, and Level A SUE Excavation equipment.
