PROGRAM OVERVIEW

SGA provides a wide range of social services in some of Chicago's most challenged and consistently underserved communities and creates long-term and community-wide change. The Chicago Department of Public Health’s Microgrants program will design and implement a coordinated, citywide application system to distribute microgrants to Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) that

provide existing community engagement and health promotion events in priority communities. Microgrant-supported

activities will include community health fairs, preventive health screenings, violence prevention programming, and

workshops focused on health education, economic resources, and other social factors that influence health.


GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

This position is primarily responsible for creating and monitoring data collection and reporting methods to ensure CBOs track and submit timely reports on activities and results supported by the Microgrants program. The position will compile, analyze, and summarize aggregate SGA operational deliverable outputs and data from CBO Microgrants activities. 


MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work closely with Program Leadership and CDPH to align grant applications with Community-Centered Wellness Microgrant Program goals and data collection.  
  • Work in cooperation with grantees to monitor ongoing performance and streamline data collection 
  • Ensure that eligible organizations in all designated regions participate in the grant-making process and that all funds are spent according to CDPH stipulations 
  • Work in cooperation with MCMF Anchor Organizations in all 15 Community Strategy Regions.
  • Ensure that eligible organizations in all regions participate in the grant-making and that all funds are spent according to MCMF stipulations.
  • Participates in the application review and selection process. 
  • Provide technical assistance and follow-up to community-based organizations to remove barriers to data collection participation.  
  • Collect, aggregate and prepare individual grantee and overall program-wide data for CDPH reports.
  • Develop and manage grantee reporting process in Submittable (an online grants submission and management portal dedicated to the CDPH Community-Centered Wellness program). 
  • Conduct in-person and virtual capacity building for grantees related to data collection and best practices. 
  • Work in partnership with SGA’s Program Evaluation team to determine clear outcomes standards for grantees in keeping with CDPH priorities. 
  • Attends mandatory training implemented by SGA or funder. 
  • Assist as needed in grantee vouchering in cooperation with SGA's Finance team.
  • Conduct in-person and virtual capacity building for grantees

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB

Education

  • Bachelor’s in evaluation, data/information analysis, public health or a related field preferred
  • Masters level student acceptable

Experience and Key Competencies

  • 2 years of experience in data evaluation, grant monitoring or program compliance, preferably with the public health or nonprofit sector. 
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including (including advanced formulas like VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, conditional formatting, and complex data cleaning). 
  • Experience navigating, querying, or managing data tracking systems. 
  • Ability to analyze both quantitative data (numbers, metrics, financial tracking) and qualitative data (narrative reports, survey feedback, success stories). 
  • Proficiency in creating clear, scannable data dashboards, charts, and summaries to translate complex outcomes for non-technical audiences and CDPH stakeholders. 
  • Data equity lens - an understanding of data collection barriers in underserved communities, with a commitment to making data processes accessible and non-extractive for grassroots organization 

Other

  • Sensitivity to cultural diversity is required. Ability to communicate and cooperate with diverse families, various professionals, and community groups.
  • Must have a vehicle with a valid driver’s license and auto insurance.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude working in a high-intensity environment.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of service providers, stakeholders
  • Ability to work varying hours Monday - Friday, schedule may include some evenings and weekends.   
  • Exercises discretion and independent judgment in executing tasks.
  • Must be able to take initiative.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to work on a computer screen for a long period of time
  • Must be able to deliver supplies to community locations, if needed.
  • Must be able to lift 20 pounds and perform event set-up, tear-down
