Fleet Mechanic / Shop Helper Local Construction Contractor Glendale Heights, IL
A well-established local construction contractor is looking for a reliable and mechanically inclined Fleet Mechanic / Shop Helper to join our team in Glendale Heights.
In this role, you will play a key part in keeping our fleet of vehicles and equipment in top working condition while also supporting general shop and yard operations.
Pay: $21.00 - $32.00 per hour, depending on experience and skill set.
Work Schedule Monday - Friday, 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM (Overtime as needed)

Position Summary Maintain and repair the company's fleet of vehicles and equipment to minimize downtime and ensure safety and compliance. Additional responsibilities include warehousing duties, tool and equipment repairs, general shop maintenance, and cleaning of grounds and parking lots.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine and preventive maintenance on fleet vehicles and equipment
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues
- Manage inventory and order automotive parts and supplies
- Assist with general shop maintenance, tool repairs, and facility upkeep
- Maintain clean and organized shop, grounds, and parking areas
- Complete required paperwork and maintain accurate service records
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- 1 years of experience as an auto mechanic or in a related mechanical field
- General automotive knowledge and strong mechanical aptitude
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Working knowledge of automotive systems (engines, transmissions, HVAC, brakes, electrical, etc.)
- Basic computer proficiency
- Ability to lift up to 100 lbs and perform physical tasks in varying weather conditions
- Willingness to work occasional overtime, weekends, or emergency calls as needed
Desired Qualifications
- 3 years of experience in fleet maintenance or vehicle repair
- Formal training or certification in vehicle repair (ASE or similar preferred)
- Fleet maintenance experience
- Prior warehouse or inventory management experience
- DOT compliance knowledge
- Forklift certification
