Qualifications
SFCS is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join our Roanoke, Virginia office. Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required, with the ability to obtain licensure in multiple states.
- Advanced experience designing electrical systems for commercial, healthcare, senior living, education, government, and institutional facilities.
- Extensive knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA standards, International Building Code (IBC), and other applicable codes and standards.
- Experience designing electrical power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, and low-voltage building systems.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit.
- Experience preparing technical specifications and construction documents.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and support the professional development of engineering team members.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and coordination of electrical systems for new construction, renovation, and adaptive reuse projects.
- Collaborate with architects, clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary project teams to develop practical, cost-effective, and code-compliant electrical solutions.
- Participate in project planning, electrical system selection, feasibility studies, and preliminary cost estimating.
- Perform field investigations and evaluate existing electrical systems for renovation and reuse.
- Prepare schematic design, design development, construction documents, technical specifications, and engineering calculations.
- Develop contract documents utilizing the latest versions of Revit and AutoCAD.
- Coordinate electrical systems with structural, mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, civil, and architectural disciplines.
- Provide construction administration services, including shop drawing review, responses to RFIs, site observations, evaluation of proposed changes, and review of contractor cost proposals.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to early career and experienced engineering staff.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, and project stakeholders.
- Stay current with evolving building codes, technologies, and industry best practices while contributing to continuous improvement within the practice.
- Willingness and ability to travel periodically in support of project assignments, client meetings, site visits, and collaboration across SFCS offices.
