Would you like to get paid to help homeless dogs and cats while they await their forever homes? SFC Virginia Animal Rescue is looking for highly motivated, hard working Animal Care Technicians to join our HQ Team.
SFC Virginia is a foster-focused animal rescue group in Fredericksburg, VA. Founded in June 2019 with the goal of saving dogs and cats from rural and otherwise underserved shelters in the state, we strive to provide quality medical care including vaccinations and spay/neuter surgeries, and to find permanent adoptive homes in our area. We work to make a positive contribution to the overall live release rate in Virginia and toward No-Kill Nation 2025. Pets that we rescue are placed in foster homes or in our HQ until they are adopted.
SFC HQ is a unique space that provides temporary housing for pets awaiting foster pickup or adoption and serves as a central location for new intakes, transports, exams, vaccinations, supply pickups, etc. We strive to offer a high quality of life to the pets during their stay, including frequent socialization through canine playgroups, which offer great opportunities for our dogs to receive daily exercise, enrichment, and socialization.
Animal Care Technicians play a crucial part at SFC HQ, supporting the physical and behavioral health of the dogs and cats, running playgroups, maintaining the cleanliness and upkeep of the facility, and more.
Responsibilities:
- Assisting with playgroups
- Feeding dogs and cats and monitoring eating habits
- Ensuring onsite animals always have clean bedding and water
- Assisting medically knowledgeable staff with physical care of dogs/cats
- Reporting medical and behavioral concerns to appropriate supervisors
- Adhering to behavioral and medical protocols as directed by supervisors
- Interacting with volunteers and adopters professionally and courteously at all times
- Thorough cleaning of the facility using stated cleaning protocols - be prepared for lots of cleaning, including dishes, laundry, crate and kennel cleaning, sweeping, and mopping.
- Ensuring that you are available and on time for all shifts.
- Engaging in continuous training and learning opportunities
- Miscellaneous projects as directed
Qualifications:
- Reliable and consistently available for scheduled shifts
- Strong work ethic; self starter and ability to work independently frequently
- Commitment to the well-being of the pets in our care
- Motivated to learn, gain new skills, and advance their knowledge
- Positive and enthusiastic
- Able to work with and interact with a wide range of people and personalities
- Able to direct and interact with volunteers
- Can remain calm and professional under pressure and in stressful situations
- Must be able to meet physical demands including, but not limited to, lifting heavy items or animals
- Not afraid to handle a mess!
- Experience working in a shelter, with dogs in a group setting, or in a veterinary clinic a plus
This is a part-time opportunity. We currently are seeking animal care technicians with available shifts Monday through Friday, from either 3pm-7pm or 4pm-7pm and Sunday from 8am-2pm. Starting pay is $15 per hour. Opportunities for advancement are available through skill acquisition, increased competency, and adherence to stated standards of employment. You must be at least 18 years old to apply.
