About SARC

Since 1977, the Sexual Assault Resource Center (SARC) has provided 24/7 support, advocacy, and education for survivors of sexual violence in Washington County. Our work is guided by the voices and needs of survivors. While sexual violence can happen to anyone, we recognize that some communities, including youth, women, BIPOC, LGBTQ , immigrants, and people with disabilities, experience higher rates of violence and face multiple, intersecting barriers to safety and healing.

SARC believes that healing happens in community. Survivors deserve to be met with dignity, respect, and empowerment at every step. Our programs include a 24-Hour Support & Resource Line, hospital accompaniment, housing advocacy, peer support groups and workshops, and community education and training.

Join Our Mission

As an Advocate, you may be the first person a survivor talks to after an assault— the one who listens, believes, and helps them take their next step toward safety and healing. This work isn’t just a job; it’s a calling to stand alongside survivors, amplify their voices, and build a community where sexual violence is no longer tolerated. If you are empathetic, reliable, and ready to respond when someone needs you most, we want you as part of our team.

About the Role

SARC is seeking a full-time Advocate to provide trauma-informed emotional support, medical and legal advocacy/accompaniment, resource navigation and referral, and housing advocacy for survivors of sexual violence. This role helps to cover our 24-Hour Support & Resource Line during business hours, responds to medical accompaniment requests, and supports survivors with protective order paperwork and follow-up support and advocacy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide trauma-informed support, referrals, and safety planning
  • Respond to hospital calls and advocacy requests during business hours
  • Assist with housing advocacy, protective order paperwork, and follow-up support
  • Maintain accurate, confidential client records
  • Support peer-led survivor groups and occasional community outreach events

What We’re Looking For

  • Passion for SARC’s mission and anti-oppression values
  • Experience in advocacy, crisis response, customer service, or social services
  • Ability to remain calm and compassionate during emotionally critical situations
  • Strong communication and active listening skills
  • Reliable transportation and ability to respond to hospital calls within 40 minutes in Washington County (mileage reimbursement included)
  • Completion of a 40-hour Oregon Confidential Advocate training (SARC provided if not already certified)
  • Ability to pass a thorough background check, including fingerprinting.

Bonus Skills

  • Bilingual (Spanish, Vietnamese, Arabic, or other languages relevant to our community)
  • Experience working with culturally specific or survivor-centered organizations
  • Lived experience relevant to the communities we serve
  • Familiarity with Washington County resources and human services

Why Join SARC

  • Make a direct positive impact on survivors’ lives
  • Flexibility and benefits that support your life and wellbeing
  • Paid training and regular team support
  • Be part of a mission-driven, survivor-centered organization that has supported the community since 1977.
