Design Engineer

Sewer Equipment provides the highest quality and most innovative sewer cleaning products for the municipal and contractor market. With a wide array of product offerings from high-pressure, high-volume trailer and truck-mounted sewer jetters to combination sewer cleaners. Sewer Equipment is currently seeking applicants to an entry level Design Engineer position at our Dixon, IL manufacturing facility.

Responsibilities include:

• Use of mechanical design software to create and refine complete mechanical design concepts for robust and low-risk machine designs that will complete the project scope within the budget and schedule parameters defined by the project scope.
• Know and understand the project scope, specifications, and any regulatory requirements that are applicable to the machine being developed.
• Complete mechanical design analysis as required to ensure the machine design will meet all project requirements.
• Create complete, organized, and detailed drawings that fully convey information to outside departments in accordance with established guidelines and standards.
• Create and execute Engineering Change Notifications (ECNs) that fully document and instruct action items to be taken.
• Support the manufacturing and testing of machines as required.
• Work with the purchasing team to continually improve quality and costs of purchased components and assist with any questions vendors may have related to design.
• Review and revise chassis specifications based on machine requirements regarding option content, weights, size, and power.
• Must be able to manage multiple projects at a time from beginning to end.

General Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field from an accredited institution
• Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to conceptualize and create mechanical designs
• Hydraulic component knowledge of simple circuits as well as open and closed loop hydrostatic systems.  Willingness to learn or receive training.
• Proficiency in using 2D and 3D CAD design software. Experience with AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, and Autodesk Vault preferred.
• Knowledge preferred in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, OneNote, Power BI, and Outlook
• Experience with finite element analysis is a plus
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to articulate clearly mechanical concepts and designs
• Highly motivated, detail oriented, and organized
• Must be able to work in fast paced environment to meet deadlines and commitments
• Must be able to work as part of a team and independently
• Strong knowledge of material and manufacturing processes
• Excellent troubleshooting skills
• 0-2 years of in field engineering experience

Work Environment:

• This job operates in a professional office and assembly shop floor environment. 
• Employees may be requested to travel on occasion to assist with any number of functions related to the company. 
• While performing the duties of this job, employees may be exposed to moving mechanical parts.
• This is a full-time salaried position, Monday through Friday, 7:30am to 4:00pm. 
• Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
