Position Summary

The Lead Preschool Teacher is responsible for creating a warm, engaging, and developmentally appropriate classroom for children ages 2–3 years. This role includes planning and implementing hands-on learning experiences using our Experience Curriculum while fostering positive relationships with children, families, and fellow educators.

Responsibilities

• Create a safe, welcoming, and engaging classroom where every child feels loved, respected, and encouraged to learn.
• Plan and implement developmentally appropriate lesson plans that promote language, literacy, early math, science, sensory exploration, art, music, movement, and social-emotional development.
• Use play-based learning experiences that encourage curiosity, creativity, independence, and problem-solving.
• Support each child's individual learning style by adapting activities based on developmental needs and interests.
• Foster positive behavior through encouragement, redirection, consistent expectations, and nurturing guidance.
• Build meaningful relationships with children that promote confidence, emotional security, and a love of learning.
• Observe and document children's developmental progress and share milestones with families through ongoing communication.
• Partner with families to support each child's growth while maintaining open, respectful, and positive communication.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and inviting classroom that meets all Maryland Office of Child Care licensing requirements.
• Supervise daily routines including meals, diapering or toileting, handwashing, outdoor play, rest time, and classroom transitions while promoting independence.
• Collaborate with fellow teachers and administration to create a positive, supportive school culture.
• Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and continuing education opportunities.
• Recognize and report concerns regarding child safety and well-being in accordance with Maryland mandated reporting requirements.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Previous experience working with toddlers or preschool-aged children in a licensed child care center or preschool preferred.
• Knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate practices for children ages 2–3 years.
• Experience planning engaging, hands-on learning activities that support all areas of development.
• Strong classroom management skills using positive guidance and encouragement.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with children, families, and coworkers.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a supportive teaching team.
• CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
• Must meet all Maryland Office of Child Care qualifications for a Lead Teacher.

Pay: $17.00 - $19.00 per hour
