Our 122 full- and part-time faculty members allow for the small 10-to-1 student-to-teacher ratio and the average class size of 14. New faculty are enrolled in a mentoring program that assists them in acclimating to our community as well as allowing time for reflection on issues related to being a teacher. General Summary: Severn School is searching for a full time Lower School Physical Education teacher to begin in August of 2026. In addition, coaching opportunities with upper school students may be available for qualified candidates.
Essential Functions: Instruction at Severn School starts with relationships and emphasizes the importance of understanding, connections, and teamwork in order to create a learning environment that promotes both achievement and inclusivity. The ideal candidate has an understanding of the various developmental levels of elementary students, is able to plan and implement appropriate lessons for a variety of age groups, and recognizes the value of physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, and social interaction. Collaboration within and among grade level teams is essential.
