The Seventh Generation Fund for Indigenous Peoples, inc. (SGF) is a foundation that provides grants and technical assistance to Indigenous Peoples’ community organizations across the globe through its grantmaking program, and it is fiscal sponsor to more than 30 Native projects. The Office Maintenance Worker performs essential upkeep tasks throughout our office; in this position you will work with SGF staff at SGF properties.

STATUS: Part Time, non-exempt

SHIFT/HOURS: Daily 4-hour shifts, 5 days a week (20 Hours total) 9:00 AM -1:00 PM

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Chief of Staff

LOCATION: Seventh Generation Fund Headquarters, Eureka, California

SALARY: $17.00 Hour

Job Description: Office Maintenance Worker will be responsible for a wide variety of activities such as repairs and cleaning to ensure that our office and buildings are both tidy and functional. Being reliable and self-motivated with a keen eye for detail is essential in this job. You should have agility and physical stamina necessary for this work.

  • Performs minor fixes, such as repairing broken fixtures and hardware, damage to walls, etc.
  • Performs preventative maintenance, repairs and routine building inspections to identify possible issues.
  • Inspects the building and grounds.
  • Maintain grounds, including garden and parking lot upkeep.
  • Complete regular maintenance tasks, such as dusting, mopping, trash removal etc.
  • Handles necessary repairs and maintenance.
  • Installs equipment and appliances.
  • Complies with all company safety regulations.
  • Keeps a maintenance log and writes reports.
  • Reports any issues to the Chief of Staff.
  • Responds to repair and maintenance requests in a timely fashion.
  • Loads and unloads equipment and tools into workspace if needed.
  • Follows written and verbal instructions from the Chief of Staff, CEO and President.
  • Collaborates with vendors, contractors or suppliers as needed.
  • Uses equipment, including power tools, hand tools, electric tools, and plumbing tools.
  • Maintain a clean and safe workplace.

Maintenance Worker Qualifications and Skills:

  • Commitment to social justice and Indigenous Peoples’ self-determination.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Experience as a maintenance worker or similar position
  • Direct experience with Native/Indigenous Peoples communities/organizations.
  • Handles the physical demands of the job, including standing, bending, pulling, pushing, climbing, and lifting at least 50 pounds.
  • Basic working knowledge of maintenance.
  • Communicates effectively, speaking multiple languages is preferred.
  • Able to travel upon request.
  • Ability to follow policy and procedures.
  • Able to work flexibly and adjust to changing needs of the organization.
  • Adhere to SGF’s confidentiality policy.
  • Positive performance measures-proactive, consistent, timely and reliable.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Commitment to social justice and Indigenous Peoples’ self-determination
  • Direct experience with Native/Indigenous Peoples, issues and communities
  • At least two years of building maintenance, construction, plumbing, experience is strongly preferred but not required.
  • A certification in building maintenance is a plus.
  • Must have a driver’s license and a clean driving record.
  • Able to work flexibly and adjust to changing needs of the organization
  • Native/Indigenous preference honored
