Financial Controller
Location - Virginia (Onsite)
Are you a hands-on finance leader looking for the opportunity to take ownership of a significant finance function within a growing international manufacturing business?
We are currently recruiting for a Financial Controller to join an established global engineering and manufacturing organisation specialising in high-precision filling and capping machinery.
The Role
As Financial Controller, you will take ownership of day-to-day financial operations and play a central role in the company's month-end close, financial reporting, planning and control activities.
You will lead and develop the finance team while working closely with senior leadership, operational teams and external accounting partners to ensure accurate, timely and commercially meaningful financial information.
Key Responsibilities-
Financial Operations
- Lead day-to-day site-level finance activities and ensure the smooth running of the finance function.
- Own the month-end management accounts process and wider financial close across the business.
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting of financial performance.
- Maintain strong financial controls, processes and accounting procedures.
- Provide meaningful financial analysis and insight to support business decision-making.
- Partner with operational and commercial teams to understand performance, costs and profitability.
Planning & Financial Control
- Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process.
- Own cash-flow forecasting and working-capital management.
- Monitor financial performance against budgets and forecasts, identifying risks and opportunities.
- Support taxation, banking and wider financial compliance requirements.
- Work closely with the external CPA firm, providing information and support as required.
- Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, reporting and controls.
- Support senior management with financial modelling, analysis and ad-hoc commercial projects.
Team Leadership
- Lead, support and develop the finance team.
- Provide day-to-day management and mentoring to the Senior Accountant and Staff Accountant.
- Set clear objectives and encourage a culture of accountability, accuracy and continuous improvement.
- Ensure the team operates effectively through month-end, year-end and wider reporting cycles.
Technical Accounting Experience
The successful candidate will bring strong technical accounting experience, ideally gained within a manufacturing, engineering, machinery or other project-based environment.
Key experience should include:
- Accrual accounting
- Job costing
- Percentage-of-completion accounting
- Revenue recognition
- Project accounting
- Month-end and year-end close
- Management reporting
- Budgeting and forecasting
- Cash-flow management
- Financial controls and process improvement
Experience working within project-based manufacturing or machinery environments will be particularly valuable, especially where projects involve complex costing, long production cycles and revenue recognition over time.
You will ideally have:
- Proven experience in a Financial Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager or similar senior finance position.
- Strong understanding of US accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Experience within manufacturing, engineering, machinery or another project-driven industry.
- Previous experience managing or mentoring a finance team.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to financial accuracy.
- The ability to communicate financial information clearly to both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
- A proactive approach to identifying issues and improving processes.
- The confidence to operate independently while partnering effectively with senior leadership and external advisors.
