About the Role:
SME has a new full-time position for a Solid Waste Engineer at our office in Cumberland, Maine. SME is seeking a qualified intermediate to senior engineer. As a Solid Waste Engineer, you will report to a principal of the firm and participate in diverse and dynamic projects for commercial, municipal, and industrial solid waste projects in Maine and the northeastern United States. You will work closely with SME’s multidisciplinary staff and frequently interact directly with teammates, so effective interpersonal and communication skills are important.
Solid Waste Engineer Responsibilities:
- Lead engineering and design tasks across diverse projects
- Prepare clear and detailed technical reports and specifications
- Provide construction engineering inspection and documentation services
- Support construction activities, including submittal review and coordination
- Prepare permit applications and ensure regulatory compliance
- Contribute to engineering tasks supporting the Cumberland, Maine, office
- Maintain exceptional organizational skills to keep projects on schedule
- Serve as a collaborative team member and problem solver, developing practical, cost-effective solutions that deliver value to clients
Solid Waste Engineer Qualifications:
- B.S. in Environmental or Civil Engineering with 5 years of relevant experience
- Exposure to or experience with construction projects
- Engineering design experience, including site grading, stormwater management, geosynthetics, pump and piping systems, and technical report preparation
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and AutoCAD software
- Ability to interpret and apply local, state, and federal permitting requirements
