Our 3rd generation family owned & operated plant nursery & garden center company is based in Western, North Carolina, coming off Interstate 40, take Exit 107 for Valdese, NC. Summary: Primarily this is a full time, feet-on-the-ground sales and customer service position for plant lovers that value & respect not only our clients but our team. This position is not only hands on in the garden center, but you will need to have the ability to help create client leads and retention strategies. You will share responsibilities for presentation & management of Garden Center outdoor sales floor, exhibiting quality customer service to all patrons, with this position you will operate our POS system daily and accept all methods of payments. Advance your skills into our rapidly growing landscape design services.
- 1 Year minimum of Garden Center, Plant Nursery, Greenhouse or outdoor related experience required.
Basic Qualifications:
- Ability to sell products, adjust to objections, and close deals
- Work daily with our sales manager and president to grow the company.
- Eager to learn, willingness to work and up for a challenge.
- Knowledge & names of plants, trees, shrubs, flowers. Willing to learn cultivars.
- Possess a great level of professionalism and strong communication skills
- Experience in merchandising, understanding reporting and basic finance.
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment
- Ability to complete tasks while maintaining order
- Initiative to work at challenging personal pace without constant direct oversight
- Computer savvy to include use of smart phones/devices on a daily basis for sales, inventory, reports & time keeping.

- High school diploma or equivalent
- Horticulture, Business, or a related degree = increased compensation.
Must be drug free & clean background.
Maintenance Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Customer Service:
- Greeting customers promptly and eagerly upon entering the Garden Center.
- Servicing customers with plant material, bagged goods, etc.
- Answering customers’ questions regarding plant material, plant care, and any other relevant topics.
- Loading the customers’ vehicles
Sales & Marketing:
- Operating Point Of Sale systems
- Working with sales manager to add and subtract products to our lineup.
- Creating promotions and sales.
- Printing tags & literature when needed.
- Computer & Smart Device usage
- Assist in Social Media, Newsletter and Website marketing, E-commerce
- Assist in follow ups, emails, texts, referral & rewards program
Maintenance & Delegation of Garden Center duties:
- Delegating and Creating workflow processes and tasks.
- Restock of plant inventory daily.
- Cleaning of Garden Center on a daily to weekly basis, to include:
- Blowing sales areas for cleanliness
- Standing up plant material
- Picking up all stakes, tools, etc. that are not in use
- Taking out the trash
- Removing & dumping weed buckets
- Recycling of cardboard (weekly or when needed)
- Maintenance of bagged goods area and restocking daily.
- Maintaining a clean and professional work environment.
Maintenance of Plant Material:
- Assist with loading and unloading orders
- Responsible for managing inventory on the sales floor.
- Responsible for managing product tags to ensure fast check out processes.
- Responsible for maintenance of Rows & Displays.
- Spacing of plant material on Rows
- Straightening of plant material
- Weeding, pruning/trimming plant material as needed
- Blowing off of plant rows
- Staking and pick up trees/shrubs
- Operating Kubota RTV (side by side)
- Operating Skid Steer, training included.
Compensation:
$25 per hour. 40-46 hour work week with overtime.
This position does not have a salary cap, We want you to grow each quarter, each year. Examination periods are often.
Paid Holidays: New Years Day. July 4th, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve & Christmas Day.
Paid time off begins after 90 days, you will earn 8 hours per every 30 day period.
PTO is to be used after each Quarter earned or Cashed in. You will earn up to 12 PTO days per year.
One weeks Paid Vacation earned after 1 year of service.
2 weeks Paid Vacation earned after 5 years of service.
