Open Rank Tenured Faculty of Counselor Education (Associate Professor/Professor)

Job no: 497080
Full time/Part time: Full-time
Location: South Orange
Categories: Faculty

The College of Human Development, Culture, and Media at Seton Hall University invites applications for a tenured Associate Professor/Professor position in Counselor Education, with a start date of August, 2026. This senior faculty member is anticipated to serve as the Department Chair, for an initial three-year term, as part of this focal appointment for the Department and College.

Duties and Responsibilities:

This search is part of a multiyear, strategic infusion of resources into our Counselor Education graduate portfolio of programs - currently with specialties in Professional Counseling and School Counseling. This includes a series of searches for faculty to support these programs: in addition to this Open Rank tenured faculty appointment, we are also currently searching for three (3) additional full-time faculty with an expertise in Counselor Education—one tenure-track, two non-tenure-track—all with an expected start date of August, 2026. As a result, we anticipate that the successful candidates for these searches – as well as the existing full-time faculty – will guide accreditation efforts.

The College’s existing graduate programs in Counseling and School Counseling are among the largest at the University, and are strongly enrolled in both on-campus and online modalities. Growth of these programs is therefore a key institutional priority, and accordingly the pursuit of CACREP accreditation has the support of both the Offices of the Dean and Provost. Organizationally, the Counselor Education programs are housed alongside graduate programs in School Psychology, Applied Behavior Analysis, Counseling Psychology and Psychological Studies. The successful candidate will therefore have an exciting opportunity to lead the Department of Professional Psychology and Family Therapy and further align its identity, connections, and collaborations with colleagues across the College.

The successful candidate will be expected to maintain a strong presence on our South Orange, NJ residential campus while engaging in an array of high-impact activities with students that include teaching, advisement, mentoring, and academic program development.

The Open-Rank Faculty/Department Chair position entails a 6-credit teaching requirement during the Fall and Spring semesters (i.e., one course per semester), based upon secondary appointment as Department Chair and commensurate with Department needs. Seton Hall University is a Carnegie R2 institution and tenured and tenure-track faculty are expected to maintain a comprehensive and commensurate research agenda with active participation in the pursuit of grants and corporate/foundation partnerships.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Consistent with a secondary appointment as Department Chair, this position will entail a 6-credit teaching load per academic year, which will include courses within the Counseling portfolio of programs. This reflects a 6-credit reduction per semester, as tenured/tenure-track faculty ordinarily maintain an 18-credit teaching load per academic year;
  • Maintain a robust scholarly agenda commensurate with a tenured appointment at an R2 University;
  • Active service across the University, College, Department, and the discipline;
  • Curriculum development and program assessment, review, and revision;
  • Student advisement and mentorship; and
  • A commitment to the University’s Mission.

About the College of Human Development, Culture, and Media
Launched in Summer 2023, Seton Hall’s College of Human Development, Culture, and Media (CHDCM) embodies the University’s commitment to pedagogical innovation, intellectual ferment, and community engagement. Uniting scholars and students from four dynamic departments — Communication, Media, and the Arts; Education Leadership, Management, and Policy; Educational Studies; and Professional Psychology and Family Therapy — the College is the new home of cutting-edge, transdisciplinary inquiry into the stickiest problems of our time.

The faculty, staff, and students of the College seek to improve the human condition by collaborating across distinct fields that uniquely complement one another—the arts, communication, education, leadership and mental health. Expression underpins all facets of the College’s portfolio — media as a form of education and artistic expression; teaching and learning as modes of creative expression; expression and expressibility as critical to counseling and therapeutic treatment; and self-expression as a vehicle of social agency. With enrollment at approximately 1,550 total students, both graduate and undergraduate, CHDCM is the second largest college at Seton Hall University, with approximately 70 full time faculty and 125 adjunct faculty.
