The Department of Psychology at Seton Hall University (www.shu.edu/psychology) invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in Cognitive or Behavioral Neuroscience (broadly defined) to begin Fall 2026. The successful candidate will have the skill to develop and teach courses within their area of expertise, as well as contribute to core courses within the psychology and neuroscience majors. The candidate will be expected to establish a line of neuroscience research with either human participants or non-human subjects that can involve undergraduate student researchers.

About the Department

Faculty in the Psychology Department have diverse basic and applied research interests and value high quality teaching and substantive service. The Department has approximately 350 psychology majors and offers BA and BS degrees, a minor, and a new and rapidly growing Cognitive and Behavioral Neuroscience major. Coursework emphasizes scientific thinking, with a broad range of basic, applied, and experiential learning offerings. We are a highly collegial department of 15 full-time faculty members with a strong commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion. Many faculty have active collaborations with colleagues in other departments at Seton Hall, as well as collaborations with regional clinical and research facilities. Our location in the greater NYC metro area provides additional opportunities for interinstitutional collaboration.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Primary responsibilities include teaching 3 undergraduate courses per semester, maintaining an active research program, and contributing to service at various levels (department, college, university, and professional). The courses are likely to be Statistics and Research Methods as well as neuroscience-related courses such as Cognitive and/or Behavioral Neuroscience, Psychopharmacology, but will vary based on a combination of instructor specialization and departmental needs.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Psychology, Neuroscience, or a closely related field (ABD candidates may be considered depending on experience, but the degree must be complete at the time of appointment).
  • Evidence of an active research program with the potential for involvement of student research assistants.
  • Commitment to engaging with a diverse study body.

Desired Qualifications:

  • College-level teaching experience.
  • Commitment to seeking external funding to support research.

Salary Range:

$62,000-$69,500

Exempt/Nonexempt: Exempt
