About the Role
Foothills Environmental is seeking a Staff Industrial Hygienist to support critical environmental investigation and remediation projects alongside Professional Engineers and Project Managers. This role requires a specialized focus on hazardous building materials, specifically asbestos and lead, and involves high-accuracy data collection to ensure site safety. To meet these technical demands, candidates must hold Colorado Asbestos Building Inspector and Air Monitoring Specialist certifications to perform essential fieldwork and compliance monitoring.
This is a full-time role involving a blend of office-based data analysis and active field operations.
What You’ll Do
- Lead Fieldwork: Execute soil, groundwater, surface water, and biological sampling; provide oversight for excavations and remediation system operations.
- Technical Monitoring: Conduct vapor intrusion/soil gas surveys and monitor air contaminants using real-time instruments (PIDs, CGIs, and toxic gas monitors).
- Sample Collection: Utilize personal air sampling pumps, passive badges, and SUMMA canisters to capture various contaminants for laboratory analysis.
- Asbestos & Lead Oversight: Perform asbestos inspections, prepare project designs, and oversee abatement projects, including final air clearance testing.
- Documentation: Maintain meticulous, accurate scientific field notes and provide input for project cost estimates and regulatory timelines.
- Collaboration: Support a multidisciplinary team of Engineers and PMs; provide on-site leadership to field teams as necessary.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all HSE policies and maintain the ability to wear full-face respirators and other necessary PPE.
- Travel: Travel to various customer sites (averaging up to 25%, with occasional multi-day trips).
What You Bring
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree (required) in Geology, Hydrogeology, Engineering, Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science or a related environmental field.
- 2 years of experience (required) in asbestos inspections, project design, and abatement oversight.
- Technical writing experience and proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
Licenses/Certifications (preferred)
- Lead-Paint Inspector/Assessor certification.
- Colorado Asbestos Building Inspector certification
- Air Monitoring Specialist certification
Skills
- Regulatory Knowledge: Strong understanding of OSHA regulations and standardized air sampling methodologies.
- Problem Solving: Ability to apply common-sense solutions to complex variables in standardized field situations.
