Job Highlights

DISES is a small, rural elementary school serving approximately 250 students from preschool through eighth grade. Located in Deer Isle, Maine, this is a beautiful coastal community, just east of Penobscot Bay along the Eggemoggin Reach. In our work and in our personal lives, we are fortunate to take advantage of the picturesque beaches, trails and historical landmarks on the island.



We prioritize social and emotional development of students by fostering positive relationship building and are working to create a school culture that balances empathy and accountability. The classroom experience is designed to inspire engagement, ensure growth and promote social and academic learning. We have extensive nature trails, an active garden/greenhouse program, a vibrant after school program, and a state of the art performing arts center. Our building is beautiful and warm with hallways full of art from local artists. We are looking for someone to join a dynamic team and make a positive impact on the lives of students with diverse learning needs.



Job Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with the teacher in daily and long range lesson and classroom activity planning.
  • Conducts independent learning activities with individual students or groups of students that reinforce and review learning and introduce new learning as planned with the teacher.
  • Prepares materials and assists students in cooperation with the teacher, which may include assistance in the same room with the teacher or in small groups in a separate room.
  • Evaluates student progress and achievement in cooperation with the teacher.
  • Supervises children and helps to maintain individual records for children.
  • Makes provision for and participates in meetings with the students and parents outside the regular instructional day when requested by the teacher to do so under reasonable circumstances.
  • Communicates with parents on the progress of students assisted by the Educational Technician III.
  • Maintains individual records for each child.
  • Assists with the supervision of children.
  • Keeps up to date on changes and developments in education by attending conferences and workshops, reading educational journals, and discussing topics of mutual interest with others in the field.
  • Maintains appropriate state authorization as an Educational Technician III.
  • Performs other duties as needed that may be requested by the teacher or principal.



Requirements

  • Certification as an Ed Tech III
  • Criminal History Record Check (CHRC)

(Candidates with certification as Ed Tech I or II may be considered if willing to train into Ed Tech III certification).

  • Compensation for Ed Tech III is between $19.65 and $27.25 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications
