Gorham High School is seeking an enthusiastic and innovative High School Physical Education Teacher to join our Wellness Department. Key Responsibilities
Curriculum Development:
Design, implement, and continuously improve engaging physical education programs that align with school wellness goals.
Develop lesson plans that accommodate a range of student abilities and encourage personal growth, teamwork, and lifelong fitness habits.
Possess the vision and ability to design and launch new courses and programs in response to evolving student interests and wellness needs.
Instruction & Classroom Management
Deliver high-quality instruction in physical education, ensuring safety standards and positive learning experiences.
Manage class discipline and create an inclusive environment where all students feel supported.
Wellness Promotion
Collaborate with wellness department colleagues to integrate health and wellness initiatives school-wide.
Organize and supervise extracurricular activities such as sports teams, fitness clubs, or seasonal wellness events.
Assessment & Tracking
Evaluate student progress using clear, consistent assessment methods.
Provide feedback and support to students to help them achieve their physical and wellness goals.
Community & Parental Interaction
Engage with parents, administrators, and community partners to promote physical fitness and overall student well-being.
Contribute to school-wide events focused on health, wellness, and community involvement.
Qualifications
Education & Certification:
Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, or a related field.
Valid state certification for teaching high school physical education.
First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
Experience
Previous teaching experience at the high school level is preferred.
Experience working in a multi-disciplinary wellness department or similar educational setting is a plus.
