What are the responsibilities and job description for the Product Engineer position at ServiceDesk Simulator?
*MUST BE BASED IN CLEVELAND THIS IS AN ONSITE POSITION*
ServiceDesk Simulator is where people learn IT support by doing it. You get a simulated company with a real ticket queue: password resets, a printer that vanished from the list, a VPN that drops, a user who is sure the file deleted itself. You take calls from AI voiced users, manage Active Directory, run ping and traceroute, and remote into broken machines to fix them. 58,000 people have signed up, and schools run it in classroom mode from a teacher dashboard.
I built it after breaking into IT at 18 without a degree. The team is small and you would work directly with me.
What you would work on
The web app is React and Vite with Tailwind, on Firebase (Firestore, Cloud Functions in Node, Auth, Storage), with Stripe for billing and an Expo app for mobile. You would build and ship across all of it: new ticket scenarios and the Event Viewer and Task Manager evidence that goes with them, the tools inside the simulated PC, the teacher dashboard, the voice and chat personas, and the plumbing underneath. You would also read the analytics and player feedback and decide what to fix next. Most weeks you ship something a player can use the same day.
How we work
Claude Code and similar tools do most of the typing here. The job is deciding what to build, splitting it into tasks agents can take in parallel, reviewing what comes back, and owning the architecture, security and quality of what ships. The repo has a test suite, a build chain of checks, and CI that runs across timezones. Everything goes through a branch and a pull request. You should be able to tell when generated code is wrong, and you prove a feature works in a browser before calling it done.
Who fits
Years on a resume matter less than what you know. You have done some IT work and know what a help desk day looks like, what a user means when they say the file disappeared, and why the ticket queue reads the way it does. You can build with AI tools, and you understand the software underneath well enough to catch what they get wrong. The rest you learn here, with training on the job. You live near Cleveland and can be in the office a few days a week. This is a long-term role, and we are hiring someone who plans to stay and grow with the product.
Pay is $25 an hour. Full-time, hybrid, Cleveland, Ohio. Apply with a link to something you built.
