What are the responsibilities and job description for the Biomedical Engineer / Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) position at Service and support?
About the role
We are hiring a full-time Biomedical Engineer / Biomedical Equipment Technician to own the inspection, preventive maintenance, calibration, repair, and documentation of a fleet of medical ventilators. You will keep the fleet in a continuous state of clinical readiness and maintain the records that demonstrate it.
What you'll do
- Perform comprehensive inspection and preventive maintenance on the ventilator fleet on a manufacturer-defined rotation.
- Inspect newly received and used-condition units on intake and identify required repairs.
- Diagnose and repair ventilators to manufacturer technical standards; coordinate manufacturer-authorized parts and service where required.
- Build and maintain the preventive-maintenance rotation schedule and update it for new equipment or revised manufacturer requirements.
- Conduct calibration, electrical-safety testing, and operational verification; partner with the Respiratory Therapist on clinical-readiness verification.
- Maintain complete maintenance, calibration, repair, and chain-of-custody documentation for each device.
- Support inventory reconciliation of biomedical equipment and flag quality issues (recall notices, storage discrepancies, expired consumables) for escalation.
Required qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Biomedical Equipment Technology, Electronics Engineering, or a closely related field — or equivalent military/technical training (e.g., BMET program).
- Demonstrated hands-on experience inspecting, maintaining, calibrating, and repairing medical ventilators.
- Manufacturer-specific training/certification or the ability and willingness to obtain manufacturer certification prior to performing covered work.
- Proficiency with electrical-safety analyzers, gas-flow analyzers, and standard biomedical test equipment.
- Strong documentation discipline and ability to maintain audit-ready service records.
Preferred qualifications
- CBET certification (AAMI / ACI Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician) or equivalent.
- Experience in a regulated environment (medical device QMS, cGMP-style storage, ISO 13485).
- Familiarity with warehouse management / inventory systems and equipment tracking.
