About the Role:
The Tooling and Maintenance Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the optimal performance and longevity of manufacturing equipment and tooling within the facility. This position is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of various mechanical and electrical systems to minimize downtime and maintain production efficiency. The technician will collaborate closely with production teams to identify potential issues and implement preventative maintenance strategies. By maintaining accurate records and adhering to safety standards, the technician helps uphold quality and compliance across all operations. Ultimately, this role supports continuous improvement initiatives by providing technical expertise and timely solutions to equipment-related challenges.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Proven experience as a maintenance technician or tooling technician in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to read and interpret technical drawings and manuals.
- Basic electrical knowledge including wiring, circuits, and control systems.
- Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Technical certification or associate degree in industrial maintenance, mechanical engineering technology, or a related field.
- Experience with CNC machinery and programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
- Familiarity with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Experience working in a safety-conscious, regulated environment such as ISO or OSHA standards.
Responsibilities:
- Perform routine and preventive maintenance on manufacturing tools, machinery, and equipment to ensure reliable operation.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues, and execute timely repairs to minimize production interruptions.
- Install new tooling and equipment, ensuring proper setup and calibration according to specifications.
- Collaborate with production and engineering teams to identify equipment improvements and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain detailed maintenance logs, service reports, and parts inventory to support operational transparency and planning.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and regulatory requirements while performing maintenance tasks.
- Assist in training operators and other staff on proper equipment use and basic troubleshooting techniques.
Skills:
The required skills enable the technician to effectively maintain and repair complex manufacturing equipment, ensuring minimal downtime and consistent production quality. Mechanical skills are essential for disassembling, diagnosing, and reassembling tooling and machinery components. Electrical knowledge supports troubleshooting of wiring and control systems, which is critical for resolving operational issues quickly. Preferred skills such as familiarity with CNC machines and PLCs allow the technician to work with advanced automated equipment, enhancing their ability to support modern manufacturing processes.
