Tennis & Pickleball Coach – Part-Time Serrano Country Club | El Dorado Hills, CA
Serrano Country Club is looking for an enthusiastic and skilled Tennis & Pickleball Coach to join our Racquet Sports team. In this part-time role, you'll coach players of all ages and skill levels through private lessons, group clinics, camps, and social events — all within the welcoming environment of one of Northern California's premier private clubs.
What You'll Do
You'll deliver high-quality instruction in tennis and/or pickleball, provide personalized feedback to help players grow, and contribute to a safe, inclusive, and positive court experience. You'll also assist with helping organize clinics, camps, and socials to ensure a vibrant and engaging racquet sports program.
Ideal Candidate
We're looking for someone who brings prior coaching or playing experience, strong communication skills, and a genuine passion for the game. Comfort working outdoors — including in summer heat and direct sun — is essential, as is a professional, service-oriented approach consistent with the standards of a private club setting.

POSITION SUMMARY
Serrano Country Club is seeking an enthusiastic, skilled, and service-oriented Tennis and Pickleball Coach to join our Racquet Sports team on a part-time basis. This role involves coaching players of all ages and skill levels in both group and private settings. The ideal candidate possesses a passion for teaching, strong communication skills, and a flexible, upbeat coaching style. This position requires the ability to work comfortably in outdoor environments, including exposure to heat and direct sunlight, and to maintain a high standard of instruction and member service in all weather conditions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct individual and group tennis and/or pickleball lessons for youth and adult members at all skill levels.
- Assist in planning and organizing clinics, camps, leagues, and social events as directed by the Director of Racquet Sports.
- Provide personalized instruction, constructive feedback, and skill development plans to help players improve technique and performance.
- Ensure a safe, inclusive, and positive environment on and off the court at all times.
- Maintain equipment, ensure courts are kept clean and organized, and report maintenance needs promptly.
- Interact professionally and courteously with members, guests, and fellow staff to promote a team-oriented and positive club atmosphere.
- Assist with scheduling, court reservations, and program communications as needed.
- Uphold Club standards, policies, and dress code; represent Serrano Country Club with professionalism at all times.
- Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned as needed by the Director of Racquet Sports, the Director of Operations, or the General Manager.
Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & ABILITIES
The following qualifications represent the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform this job successfully:
Required:
- Previous experience playing or coaching tennis and/or pickleball at a professional, collegiate, or competitive recreational level.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to interact positively with members, guests, supervisors, and coworkers.
- Ability to motivate, inspire, and work effectively with players of all skill levels, ages, and backgrounds.
- Ability to work independently and take initiative while also contributing to a collaborative team environment.
- Ability to come to work regularly and on time, follow directions, accept feedback constructively, and treat all individuals with respect.
- Reliable transportation and demonstrated punctuality.
- Must meet legal age requirements for the position.
- Must provide valid document(s) to work in the United States.
Preferred:
- USPTA, PTR, or PPR certification (or active pursuit thereof) strongly preferred.
- Experience working with youth, seniors, or beginner-level players.
- Knowledge of both tennis and pickleball rules, tactics, and contemporary teaching methodologies.
- Private club, resort, or upscale recreational facility experience preferred.
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred; willingness to obtain required.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- A minimum of one (1) year of coaching or instructional experience in tennis and/or pickleball.
- Experience in an upscale private club, resort, or hospitality environment is preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework in kinesiology, physical education, or a related field is a plus.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally in English with members, guests, management, and coworkers — both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to read and interpret Club documents, safety guidelines, and program schedules.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this position, the employee must be able to:
- Stand, walk, bend, and move continuously on court surfaces for extended periods of time.
- Demonstrate tennis and pickleball strokes, footwork, and techniques as part of instructional delivery.
- Use hands, arms, and full body range of motion for coaching activities.
- Lift and carry equipment weighing up to 25–50 lbs.
- Maintain physical stamina and focus across back-to-back lessons and group sessions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment at Serrano Country Club ranges from wintertime lows of approximately 30°F to summertime highs exceeding 105°F. Employees in this role should be prepared for the following conditions:
- Primarily outdoor court settings with prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, heat, and varying weather conditions.
- Ability and willingness to teach and coach effectively in challenging weather conditions, including high heat and full sun, while maintaining energy, attentiveness, and a positive disposition.
- Must follow all Club heat-safety protocols and hydration guidelines, and encourage the same among members and students.
- Active, physically demanding role requiring long periods on court regardless of temperature or weather.
- Evening and weekend availability required; scheduling may vary seasonally.
- May be subject to indoor reassignment during extreme weather conditions at the discretion of club management.
